Prezentowana książka była w roku jej wydania (1978) jednym z pierwszych polskich podręczników programowania. Warto zauważyć, że w tekście używane jest sformułowanie "maszyna cyfrowa" ponieważ określenie "komputer" nie było jeszcze w krajach RWPG używane - dominowała terminologia narzucona przez ZSRR. Opisane w książce języki programowania były w czasie pisania książki bardzo popularne. Assembler PLAN był używany na komputerach serii Odra 1300, Fortran i Algol były szeroko stosowane, a język PL/1 był nowością (która się zresztą nie przyjęła).

Bir yönetim biçiminin ifadesi olarak demokrasi kavramının, "halkın iktidarı" anlamında, ilk kez Eski Yunan'da kullanıldığı ve kısmen de olsa uygulandığı bilinmektedir. Ne var ki, Eski Yunan'la başlayan bu süreç Orta Çağda kesintiye uğramış ve demokrasi düşüncesinin yeniden çekicilik kazanması, aydınlanma felsefesinin sonuç vermeye başlamasıyla mümkün olabilmiştir. Aydınlanma felsefesiyle birlikte yaygın bir ideal durumuna gelen demokrasi düşüncesi ulaşılan noktada durmamıştır. Bu durum demokrasinin geleceğe açık olma özelliğinden kaynaklanmaktadır ve dolayısıyla onun şimdiki anıyla sabitlenebileceği yargısına kapılmanın doğru bir yaklaşım olmadığı söylenebilir. Radikal demokrasi bu sorunların temelinde meşruiyet olgusunu görür; liberal demokrasinin, demokrasinin ideal anlamından uzaklaştığını, bu yüzden meşruiyet krizi yaşadığını kabul eder ve bu krizi çözerek onu demokrasinin gerçek anlamına yaklaştırmayı hedefler. We investigate three parameterized algorithmic schemes for graphical models that can accommodate trade-offs between time and space: 1) AND/OR Adaptive Caching (AOC(i)); 2) Variable Elimination and Conditioning (VEC(i)); and 3) Tree Decomposition with Conditioning (TDC(i)). We show that AOC(i) is better than the vanilla versions of both VEC(i) and TDC(i), and use the guiding principles of AOC(i) to improve the other two schemes. Finally, we show that the improved versions of VEC(i) and TDC(i) can be simulated by AOC(i), which emphasizes the unifying power of the AND/OR framework.

One of the deliverables of the HOLON (Health Object Library Online) project is the specification of a reference architecture for clinical information systems that facilitates the development of a variety of discrete, reusable software components. One of the challenges facing the HOLON consortium is determining what kinds of components can be made available in a library for developers of clinical information systems. To further explore the use of component architectures in the development of reusable clinical subsystems, we have incorporated ongoing work in the development of enterprise terminology services into a Problem List subsystem for the HOLON testbed. We have successfully implemented a set of components using CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and Java distributed object technologies that provide a functional problem list application and UMLS-based "Problem Picker." This paper presents results from a demonstration project of nationwide exchange of health data for the home care of diabetic patients. A consortium of industry, academic, and health care partners has developed reusable middleware components integrated using the HOLON architecture. Engineering approaches for multi-organization systems development, lessons learned in developing layered object-oriented systems, security and confidentiality considerations, and functionality for nationwide telemedicine applications are discussed.

Rosmini distinguishes between the terms philosophy and metaphysics. He employed the latter in the limited sense of science of the real, which, according to him, includes the metaphysical concepts such as cosmology, ontology and natural theology. These metaphysical concepts are vague to simple man. They could only make sense, if these concepts, especially cosmology, could be applied to mankind and his natural habitat, the civil or human society (the state). His philosophical ideas and cosmological principles exalt mankind, so that the latter forms the fulcrum of this research. Man, being a divine entity, because of his immortal soul innated by God, is endowed with human dignity that must not be encroachment upon by all, even the state. This notion of Rosmini will be test practically against case law of the South African judicature as well as the 8 th and 14 Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Neo-Thomism alludes to the aspect of renewal within the context of continuity. Thomas Aquinas himself effectuated expansion and renewal of the works of Aristotle. By virtue of this the neo-Thomist may not allow his thinking to become staid and stagnant in respect of the views of Thomas Aquinas. He should progress and make adjustments in keeping with the dynamics of the current period of time and should not merely relate the words of Thomas Aquinas. The neo-Thomist should carry into effect the spiritual thinking of Aquinas and where possible expound on this. On this basis neo-Thomism is indicative of expansion, renewal, originality and application. According to this premise Rosmini may be considered a neo-Thomist. On the question, whether he will also be considered a Thomist, the answer can be found in the opinions of Rosmini's advocates and opponents. Rosmini's advocate's, on the one hand, argue that he attempted to introduce innovative thinking to the Thomistic tradition that emphasized him as a neo-Thomist. His opponents, on the other hand, uphold traditional Thomism and were adamant that Rosmini could not be classified in terms of this grouping. This paper underpins a via media by emphasizing, on the one hand, that Rosmini's views of theology and philosophy fall within the ambit of traditional or classical Thomism. His theological and philosophical views would eventually replace Thomism as the official philosophy of the Catholic Church. According to Rosmini's advocates, his ideas were interpreted out of context by his opponents. They believe that Rosmini upheld traditional Thomism and that hostile political influences should be left out of the picture. It is evident in this paper that Rosmini's viewpoints uphold the fundamental truths of traditional Thomism while expanding on it in the light of the prevailing social and political context of the era. He applied the points of departure of Thomism in such a way that they gained a new and dynamic actuality. In this respect Rosmini's views fall into the category of neo-Thomism, in addition to the traditional or classical Thomism.

With regard to new democracies in developing societies, the majority of citizens is less interested in the right to freedom of speech or to assembly and more concerned with having sufficient food to eat, a roof over their heads, education and accessible health care for their children. The study aims or is triggered by a recent visit to South Africa by the president of Botswana, Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama. In a keynote address at the Drivers of Change and Investing in the Future Awards in Johannesburg, Mr Khama urged states or leaders and the courts to tolerate or rather accommodate the need of the poor and the most vulnerable. If a (new) constitution is to have credibility and command the respect of the people subject to its provisions, it must take account of these demands and reflect them. In this way, for example, the right to health care and shelter has been recognized. This study asserts that a claim of lack of financial resources by the state is not an excuse for a failure to provide adequate services such as in the cases of Hoffman v South African Airways, Government of the Republic of South Africa v Grootboom and Soobramoney v Minister of Health, KwaZulu-Natal. Because of the chosen research approach, the research results may lack generalisability. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed propositions further. This situation (lack of financial resources) warrants a reflection on the right to equality and human dignity. If equality is denied to people who have no food, clothing, shelter or access to health services, it follows of necessity that equality cannot be achieved unless all people have adequate food, clothing, shelter and access to health services. People who are denied access to the basic social and economic rights are denied the opportunity to live their lives with a semblance of human dignity.

According to Rosmini duty precedes right. Without duty preceding right it would be impossible to form a concept or idea of right. As stated by Rosmini, the concept of right is encapsulated within the idea of duty. Each right thus has a duty that counters it. If a human being loves his fellow man, he will fulfill his obligations towards that person. By carrying out the command of love, a person will not be able to wrong his fellow man. On the grounds hereof the decree of love and social beneficence underwrite, in the context of Rosmini all rights and duties, that of the State and of the individual. With regard to Thomas Aquinas, the rights and duties of the individual would be neglected, while that of the State, under the guise of Salus reipublicae supreme lex, would be stressed. The latter pave the way for human rights infringements, that is in contradistinction with the South African (Bill of Rights) Constitution and the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments of the American Constitution. The question that can be asked today is: Of what relevance is Rosmini's legal theory on individual rights for modern man? Rosmini's individual rights did not appear from nowhere. From the opinions of some Greek writers, he concluded that the soul, as a result of its immortal and mobile qualities, is divine in nature and therefore serves as the origin of individual rights. Rosmini is of the opinion, unlike Thomas Aquinas, that the protection of individual rights should filter through to all levels of human existence; from the foetal stage to adult life. In contrast with the Aristotelian Thomistic hylomorphism doctrine, he believes that just like an adult, a foetus has a soul, even in its early stages, and is entitled to the protection of his/her individual rights. This is the basis of the Constitution of South Africa 108 of 1996. Owing to the innate nature of the human soul, Rosmini succeeded in postulating God as ontological framework for the individual rights of man. The description of the unique value of humans in Psalm 8:5 is striking: "For thou hast made him but little lower than God, and crownest him with glory and honor." (American Standard Version) Man, as image bearer of God, is thus endowed with individual rights that must be recognised by all, including the state. Rosmini hereby rejects the salus rei publicae suprema lex doctrine supported by Thomas Aquinas. Rosmini argues that, if this (salus reipublicae suprema lex) doctrine were to be followed, the state would be encroaching on the individual rights of its citizens. Furthermore, he believes that the state is geared to protect the individual rights of its citizens. Rosmini thus argues that the interests of the state are best served if the interests of the citizen are first protected.

In the Late Republican time, the censor was involved in maintaining and enforcing moral conduct amongst the citizenry. It had to guard the morals of the populace. The question to be asked now concerns the implications, for humanity in a modern democracy, of censuring the censor. This study determines that the functions of the censor display similarities with that of the Public Protector in a modern democracy. However, the functions of the censor belonged to the Late Republican time. Only centuries later, a bureaucracy, the Public Protector, appeared with functions similar to those of the censor. However, because of the constitutional demands of a modern democracy, the Public Protector had to fulfil additional and wider-ranging functions. Despite these larger and wider-ranging functions, the influence of the censor is clearly to be seen in the functions of the Public Protector.

Background: The use of novel algorithmic techniques is pivotal to many important problems in life science. For example the sequencing of the human genome [1] would not have been possible without advanced assembly algorithms. However, owing to the high speed of technological progress and the urgent need for bioinformatics tools, there is a widening gap between state-ofthe-art algorithmic techniques and the actual algorithmic components of tools that are in widespread use. To remedy this trend we propose the use of SeqAn, a library of efficient data types and algorithms for sequence analysis in computational biology. SeqAn comprises implementations of existing, practical state-of-the-art algorithmic components to provide a sound basis for algorithm testing and development. In this paper we describe the design and content of SeqAn and demonstrate its use by giving two examples. In the first example we show an application of SeqAn as an experimental platform by comparing different exact string matching algorithms. The second example is a simple version of the well-known MUMmer tool rewritten in SeqAn. Results indicate that our implementation is very efficient and versatile to use. We anticipate that SeqAn greatly simplifies the rapid development of new bioinformatics tools by providing a collection of readily usable, well-designed algorithmic components which are fundamental for the field of sequence analysis. This leverages not only the implementation of new algorithms, but also enables a sound analysis and comparison of existing algorithms.

This thesis introduces and describes a software tool called Mushroom which automates the analysis of network protocols specified by the Systems of Communicating Machines (SCM) and the Communicating Finite State Machines (CFSM) models. SCM is a formal model for the specification, verification, and testing of communication protocols. This model was originally developed to improve the CFSM model which is a simpler and earlier Formal Description Technique (FDT). The program is developed as two separate programs in the Ada programming language. The first program automates either the system state analysis (Smart Mushroom), or the full global analysis (Big Mushroom) for a protocol specified by the SCM model. The second program called Simple Mushroom, automates the global reachability analysis for the CFSM model. Mushroom greatly facilitates the use of these models for protocol design and analysis. The run time and memory efficiency of a previous program was improved to allow the analysis of larger and more complex protocols. The program was also extended to accept up to eight machines (processes) in the protocol specification. The user interface of the program has also been improved. Mushroom has been used to verify some well known protocols specified by the SCM and CFSM models such as the token bus protocol, Go Back N and Lap-B data link control protocol.

High-throughput screening (HTS) is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry to identify novel chemical starting points for drug discovery projects. The current study focuses on the relationship between molecular hit rate in recent in-house HTS and four common molecular descriptors: lipophilicity (ClogP), size (heavy atom count, HEV), fraction of sp3-hybridized carbons (Fsp3), and fraction of molecular framework ( fMF). The molecular hit rate is defined as the fraction of times the molecule has been assigned as active in the HTS campaigns where it has been screened. Beta-binomial statistical models were built to model the molecular hit rate as a function of these descriptors. The advantage of the beta-binomial statistical models is that the correlation between the descriptors is taken into account. Unkonventionelles Rechnen bezeichnet eine zumeist interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Forschungsrichtung, in der neue und alternative Methoden und Technologien für die Rechentechnik erschlossen werden. Die Nutzung von Techniken der Photonik, der Nanotechnik, des Quantencomputing oder auch von analogen Spezialprozessoren sind Beispiele für Unkonventionelles Rechnen. Die große Herausforderung aus Sicht der Technischen Informatik besteht darin, frühzeitig die Chancen und Möglichkeiten innovativer Technologien aufzugreifen und nicht nur für quantitative, sondern insbesondere für qualitative Verbesserungen für zukünftige leistungsfähigere Rechner-und Prozessorarchitekturen zu nutzen. Umgekehrt können neue in der Informatik entwickelte Architekturkonzepte wieder auf die Entwickler von Technologien zurückwirken. Im Artikel wird diesbezüglich ein Schwerpunkt auf die Nanotechnik, speziell die Nanoelektronik, gelegt.

We continue the development of the infinitesimal deformation theory of pasting diagrams of k-linear categories begun in . In the standard result that all obstructions are cocycles was established only for the elementary, composition-free parts of pasting diagrams. In the present work we give a proof for pasting diagrams in general. As tools we use the method developed by Shrestha [6] of representing formulas for obstructions, along with the corresponding cocycle and cobounding conditions by suitably labeled polygons, giving a rigorous exposition of the previously heuristic method, and deformations of pasting diagrams in which some cells are required to be deformed trivially.

A semântica principal de um micromundo deve ser uma linguagem que permita ao aluno transferir suas habilidades cotidianas para construção do conhecimento científico, sob uma perspectiva construcionista, onde a interação do sujeito com o computador é a principal característica. O software GeoGebra possui potencialidades para auxiliar o aluno na construção do conhecimento, mas muitos professores ainda não conhecem tais qualidades. Deste modo, realizamos um estudo teórico sobre o software, que embasa duas pesquisas qualitativas de mestrado, nas quais o GeoGebra foi analisado como um ambiente que permite a construção de um micromundo e apresentado como alternativa para o estudo da Matemática.

A semântica principal de um micromundo deve ser uma linguagem que permita ao aluno transferir suas habilidades cotidianas para construção do conhecimento científico, sob uma perspectiva construcionista, onde a interação do sujeito com o computador é a principal característica. O software GeoGebra possui potencialidades para auxiliar o aluno na construção do conhecimento, mas muitos professores ainda não conhecem tais qualidades. Deste modo, realizamos um estudo teórico sobre o software, que embasa duas pesquisas qualitativas de mestrado, nas quais o GeoGebra foi analisado como um ambiente que permite a construção de um micromundo e apresentado como alternativa para o estudo da Matemática.

However, learning programming can be a daunting experience for a lot of students. RunJumpCode is an educational 2D platformer video game, designed and developed in Unity, to teach players the fundamental concepts of C# programming. The game enhances the player's programming knowledge by providing a fun range of challenges and puzzles to solve. We promoted the interaction of programming through a 'Code Box', allowing players to enter lines of predefined code that modifies in-game objects. This tool is essential in completing the challenges and puzzles we designed. To allow alterations of its properties, we made further manipulation of each object possible, which would give the player creative freedom to complete each level. Quizzes and journals were utilized to assess and collate their learnt material for future reference. In addition, we created a mobile application to track each player's statistics throughout the game and compare their progress with other users. A full evaluation study has been planned, the goal of which is to examine the effect of using the system on students' learning.

In this paper, a multivariate control chart for detecting increasing shifts in coefficient of variation considering measurement errors in Phase II is developed. The proposed control chart is designed based on Markov chain approach and the average of run length (ARL) criterion. Sensitivity analyses are performed on the different parameters and the effect of measurement errors on the control chart performance is investigated. Also, the multiple measurement approach is applied to decrease the negative effect of measurement errors.

Analyzing a single data set using multiple RNA informatics programs often requires a file format conversion between each pair of programs, significantly hampering productivity. To facilitate the interoperation of these programs, we propose a syntax to exchange basic RNA molecular information. This RNAML syntax allows for the storage and the exchange of information about RNA sequence and secondary and tertiary structures. The syntax permits the description of higher level information about the data including, but not restricted to, base pairs, base triples, and pseudoknots. A class-oriented approach allows us to represent data common to a given set of RNA molecules, such as a sequence alignment and a consensus secondary structure. Documentation about experiments and computations, as well as references to journals and external databases, are included in the syntax. The chief challenge in creating such a syntax was to determine the appropriate scope of usage and to ensure extensibility as new needs will arise. The syntax complies with the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) recommendations, a widely accepted standard for syntax specifications. In addition to the various generic packages that exist to read and interpret XML formats, an XML processor was developed and put in the open-source MC-Core library for nucleic acid and protein structure computer manipulation.

Die Bewahrung komplexer digitaler Artefakte am Beispiel von Computerspielen Der Artikel beschreibt die Rahmenbedingungen der Bewahrung digitaler Kulturgüter. Dabei konzentriert er sich vor allem auf die Bewahrung von Computerspielen, da diese als ältestes digitales Massenmedium die längste Bewahrungstradition haben und als komplexe digitale Artefakte höchste Ansprüche an die Bewahrungsmethoden und -techniken stellen. Des Weiteren wird eine historische Verortung der Bewahrung von Computerspielen vorgenommen, indem Besonderheiten vor dem Hintergrund eines Vergleichs mit der Bewahrung des ehemals neuen Mediums Film benannt werden. Am Ende des Artikels wird das EU Forschungsprojekt KEEP vorgestellt, das im Kern das Ziel hat, die bisher praktizierte Bewahrungsstrategie für komplexe digitale Artefakte (Emulatorenstrategie) nachhaltig und systematisch zu etablieren. Es ist eine Gesetzmäßigkeit kultureller Entwicklung, dass sich an Phasen technischer Innovationen erst mit einer gewissen Zeitverzögerung die Idee der Bewahrung der jeweiligen Kulturgüter anschließt. Üblicherweise geht dieser Idee eine gesellschaftliche Anerkennung des Artefakts als Kulturgut voraus. Als beispielhaft für diese Gesetzmäßigkeit ist in jüngerer Zeit die Entwicklung des Mediums Film zu nennen. The Co-Audicle describes the next phase of the Audicle's development. We extend the Audicle to create a collaborative, multi-user interaction space based around the ChucK language. The Co-Audicle operates either in client/server mode or as part of a peer-to-peer network. We also describe new graphical and GUI-building functionalities. We draw inspiration from both live interaction software, as well as online gaming environments.

ChucK is a new audio programming language for real-time synthesis, composition, and performance, which runs on commodity operating systems. ChucK natively supports concurrency, multiple, simultaneous, dynamic control rates, and the ability to add, remove, and modify code, on-the-fly, while the program is running, without stopping or restarting. It offers composers and performers a powerful and flexible programming tool for building and experimenting with complex audio synthesis programs, and real-time interactive control.

ChucK re-factors the idea of a computer music language into three orthogonal basis components: unit generator connections that are data-flow only, globally consistent "first-class" time control, and sample-synchronous concurrency. The syntax, semantic, and usage have been discussed in previous works. The focus and contributions of this paper are (1) to examine the philosophies and decisions in the language design (2) to describe ChucK's implementation and runtime model, and (3) to outline potential applications enabled by this framework. We present an experiment in designing a computer music language "from scratch" and show how things work. We hope these ideas may provides an interesting reference for future computer music systems.

The development of interactive media tutorial model for impulse and momentum material. The Interactive media used tutorial model is being needed to increase the effectiveness of impulse and momentum learning material. The aim of this research were to produce learning interactive media used tutorial model for impulse and momentum material, to describe the attractiveness, the easiness, the expediency, and the effectiveness of the product. This research used research and development method, and the research design was modifying the instructional media development process by Sadiman, et al. The results showed that the media attractive to use, easy to use, very useful in learning and proven effective to use in learning shown by 79% of students reached the standard of minimum score. Abstrak: Pengembangan media interaktif model tutorial pada materi impuls dan momentum. Media interaktif model tutorial sangat dibutuhkan untuk meningkatkan efektifitas pembelajaran materi impuls dan momentum. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan media interaktif model tutorial materi impuls dan momentum, mendeskripsikan kemenarikan, kemudahan, dan kemanfaatan, serta keefektifan produk. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian research and development atau penelitian dan pengembangan, dan desain penelitian yang digunakan yaitu memodifikasi proses pengembangan media instruksional oleh Sadiman, dkk. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media yang dikembangkan menarik untuk digunakan, mudah untuk digunakan, sangat bermanfaat dalam pembelajaran dan terbukti efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran yang ditunjukkan sebanyak 79 % siswa telah tuntas KKM.

Programming has not yet become a natural medium for artists. I see two, connected causes for this: to acquire sufficient skill of computer programming and the essential algorithmic thinking is normally beyond the capacity of artists, and, for many, it is not apparent what novel possibilities the computer offers for visual exploration and for entirely new genres of experience. Processing – a recent open-source programming language made by artists for artists – makes it feasible to break both of these forbidding arguments. The goal of the workshop is to let participants – including artists who have never ever programmed before – get an insight into the programming language and its environment, practice making visual sketches and control them by using the mouse, and get an outlook on the potentials by browsing selected digital artworks. This article seeks to examine the meaning and content of law as perceived by some scholars to aid in the determination of whether the primary aim of law is to measure human conduct and facilitate socialization. Law is a phenomenon that has attracted several and diverse definitions from different schools of thoughts. As a social phenomenon its definition seems to be dependent and influenced by the socio-cultural experiences of the relevant proponent and thus subjective. This article critically examines various definitions of law, in a bid to unravel the true and proper meaning of law. It shows that law is not merely a tool for enforcing orders of the state or a superior being but primarily a tool for measuring human conduct and socialization.

This research is a research of developing in the construction of learning module which can provide physics learning in several representation, that is the module with multi representation basis. The purpose of this research is to create a multi representation module with dynamic electricity material intended for students of class IX SMP Negeri 1 Negerikaton. The Developing method which is including seven procedure steps of product development and product test. Based on the internal test result it can be concluded that a module based on multi representation which has been tested and feasible to be used with qualities are: interesting, easy to be used, useful and the effectiveness as a learning media has been stated.
