If you enjoyed Lies of P, then you'll likely be glad to return to Krat in Overture —to wield new weapons, and face tougher enemies and bosses. The many refinements to the game's details also help make this return journey a much smoother ride.
Ultimately, Lies of P: Overture is configured as a further testimony to the crystalline talent of the Korean developers of Neowiz and Round 8 who, after having hit like a hurricane in a seemingly saturated market such as that of soulslike action/RPGs, replicate the winning scheme by declining it in an adventure with even darker tones, supported by a powerful imagery and an exciting story. Net of some qualitative contraction in some moments and a not exactly stellar duration, the expansion of Lies of P will certainly delight those who loved the epic of Geppetto's favorite son. Are you ready to return to tread the streets of Krat?
Lies of P: Overture forms a complete narrative with the main story. It is not simply additional content, but an essential component that completes the work 'Lies of P' itself. Here, we experience the sense of completion that comes when the final piece of the puzzle falls into place.
Lies of P: Overture adds a beautiful chapter to a fantastic game. The only criticism you could levy against it, is that it's not as essential to this game's world as it should be.
It's also not a bad thing that Lies of P: Overture is essentially more of the same. The base game is arguably the best souls-like to come out of a studio not named From Software since the genre took off. However, I would imagine it's less than ideal for anyone who's recently finished Lies of P for the first time. For people like me, who haven't touched it since it launched in September 2023, I was more than happy to dedicate another 15 hours to more of the same. Overture is a beginning that caps off a fantastic game.
Overture is a prequel DLC that simply provides more Lies of P, and that’s an extremely good thing. The new areas are largely a breath of fresh air, and the added enemy types inject even more variety into a world that was already pretty well-stocked with things trying their absolute best to murder your puppet face. There isn’t much in the way of surprising ideas or interesting new mechanics, but having a fresh set of formidable bosses to take down is compelling enough in its own right, with some of them standing amongst the most exciting encounters that can be found in Lies of P. Couple those with a fully-featured story that’s every bit as satisfying as the original, and this is one creepy puppet show I’m glad to revisit.
For those frustrated people who come here to downgrade this great game just because they added several difficulty modes, I have something for you: heartburn pills. Lies of P is one of the few games that comes close to Bloodborne in terms of atmosphere and I honestly don't give a damn about the difficulties. The DLC is very good as is the story mode, and no one is forced to play on easy mode, because there are modes for all types of players. Giving a game like this a 0 just shows how depressing certain individuals are. Lies of PEAK!!!
Best soulsborne game outright. They’re about to rob souls out of that title. What a shame the critics underscored it. You guys don’t know how to score games..
I love the original game, when i buy the dlc, i m very hype! but for can play ther dlc you must go to chapter 9! it's very stupid, i have no time to make a second longplay just for play to the dlc so i make refund on steam.
Dear Neowiz team,
I am extremely disappointed with your decision to add multiple difficulty settings and allow players to switch difficulties at any **** are betraying the very core of what made your game special and what defines the Soulslike genre: shared suffering, equal experience, and earned victories.Soulslike games are not about pleasing everyone. They are about overcoming frustration, learning mechanics, and sharing that unique experience with others who went through the exact same **** allowing difficulty selection and switching, you destroy that bond between players. I will never know if someone really beat the same boss I did, under the same conditions, with the same **** are sacrificing the genre’s DNA for commercial reasons, turning your game into just another generic action RPG trying to appeal to the masses. Congratulations: you have become just another 08/15 game series I will ignore in the future. This was my last Lies of P game. I trusted you as a developer that respected the Soulslike philosophy, but you have proven **** are not part of this genre anymore — you are traitors.
Disappointed and done,
Redon Sahitaj
I’m wondering why if this dlc is indicative of Neowitz soulslikes going forward? Not only has is not improved the main game, it’s actually worse with its lazy ganks in enclosed spaces. Its $30 yet feels like it should be half of that as it’s short and not good.
