Lies of P: Overture expansion gets a surprise release, now available for $30

The massively popular Soulslike experience Lies of P took over the genre back in 2023, offering players a sleek and innovative combat system that is coupled with a story that follows Pinocchio. The developer Round8 Studio had already announced that it was working on an expansion pack, but during the Summer Game Fest showcase today, it decided to simply release the project to the masses immediately.

While set in the same universe as the original game, Lies of P: Overture is taking players to a different time to tell the story of how the Puppet Frenzy massacre happened. The prequel storyline has brand-new vistas to explore, fresh enemies to face, plenty of weaponry to equip, and, most importantly, a wealth of new bosses to defeat.

Lies of P was a historic debut for our team, and it felt fitting to expand the story we’ve crafted in the most noteworthy fashion during Summer Game Fest with a surprise shadow drop on all platforms,” said Jiwon Choi, game director, ROUND8 Studio. “This expansion allowed us to complete the first arc of our story, and we hope our community feels the same love and support as they did for the base game. Please stay tuned for what awaits Geppetto’s Puppet.”

Alongside the expansion, the studio is bringing an update to the base game that will add two new difficulty settings to the experience, as well as two boss battle modes for taking on previously defeated foes with different difficulty tiers. A boss rush mode is also incoming for free.

The Lies of P: Overture expansion is now available across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 with a $29.99 price tag. An Overture bundle is also available that packages both the base game and the expansion for new players to jump into straight away. Don't forget that the studio is also working on a full-fledged sequel to Lies of P, though there is no information on a release window just yet.
