Malaysians In Thailand Celebrate National Day In Spirit Of Unity

BANGKOK, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok on Monday organised a get-together in conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebration, bringing together members of the Malaysian diaspora in Thailand in a show of unity and national pride.

The celebration saw Malaysians living in Thailand come together to commemorate the nation’s independence, reflecting their strong sense of patriotism, belonging and community despite being away from home.

Dressed in traditional attire, about 200 Malaysians gathered to sing the national anthem, Negaraku, and celebrate Malaysia’s National Day through a blend of traditional and modern festivities showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah said that beyond commemorating Malaysia’s independence, the celebration provided an important occasion for Malaysians in Thailand to come together in the spirit of patriotism and unity, while reflecting on the country’s journey as a sovereign nation.

“It also provided a valuable platform for members of the Malaysian community from diverse professional and social backgrounds to meet, reconnect and strengthen their networks.

“In doing so, the event further reinforced the close ties between the Embassy and the Malaysian community in Thailand,” he said in his speech at the celebration held at a hotel in Pathumwan, here.

Wan Zaidi said the celebration also reflected the embassy’s continued commitment to engaging with and supporting Malaysians residing in Thailand, while fostering a strong sense of national identity and connection with Malaysia.

“Although we are away from our homeland, our hearts and souls remain firmly connected to Malaysia,” he said.

The gathering also featured a variety of Malaysian delicacies, including nasi lemak, roti canai and teh tarik, offering participants a taste of home.

As part of the National Day celebration, the Jalur Gemilang will also be prominently displayed on giant LED screens at CentralWorld and Siam Paragon, as well as atop the iconic Baiyoke Tower in Bangkok.
