General
-
Language selection for tags and results: As enduser, when I enter Technorati I'd like to see the results just for pages in my own language (not English, not Japanese.... just Spanish for me if I'm just interested in those).
-
API or RSS feed for NewsTalk.
-
Claim my Flickr, claim my del.icio.us.
-
Offer a quick ego feed for claimed sources.
-
Affiliate program for watchlist subscriptions and/or new user accounts.
-
Sort keyword search by source authority.
-
Please add IM Smarter integration to IM users when someone posts a backlink to my site or a new hit comes to any of my watchlists.
-
How about coding a google-like inurl: to restrict the address-space you want to scan for tags? (so we can search using "tag:something inurl:http://my.blog.com")
-
A way to make the number of incoming links have some bearing on how high posts are displayed on the search page, like Google's pagerank, instead of only displaying most recent first.
-
The API
-
Some sort of indicator in the response about the type of response it is ('<result type="cosmos">', maybe)
-
A way to create and use Watchlists through the API.
-
Cosmos
-
Better permalink detection (use rel="bookmark" as first cut at permalink detection)
-
"complete cosmos" option (includes links from archive pages - that have dropped off the blog home page)
-
filter/order cosmos results by link relationships ('rel' attribute)
-
a section of each item for <outboundblogs></outboundblogs>
-
AlternateUrlCosmos (solves loss of cosmos when post permalinks
change)
-
Allow wildcards or partial URL matching to allow for site exploration
-
Search
-
a tag search that only returns the header (meta data) for the results. i.e the number of blogs containing the tag and the number of searches. It is not always required that any resulting match information be returned. I would have thought it would be a lot faster just to return this data (and a lot more lightweight)
-
search match items include a <weblog /> element with info about the blog (including its url) from whence the match originated but there is no <permalink /> (or <story-url /> or whatever) url element to reference the matching post directly. [IanKallen] 2004-12-04
-
a sorting option by date (the date the query phrase was found) - This would allow a type of related blogs feature ("blogs recently mentioning *keyword*")
-
Instead of 1, 2, 3 along the bottom, why not have dates like this morning, yesterday, last month etc?
-
entry for link to individual post (as provided by search in the standard web interface)
-
Ability to extract the HTML/ text of a blog post given its permalink (excluding the other content on the blog like BlogRoll, etc. )
-
ability to remove keyword highlighting from the response
-
include the individual blogs rank information - in search results
-
Rankings change with every new link added to our system. How would a ranking help you in your interpretation of search results? Would placing a weblog into a broader set such as top X% provide similar value? -NiallKennedy

Metadata search

Profile
-
a option to pass an url= parameter (instead of the Technorati UID) - the profile for the owner of the URL would be returned. This would be useful for collecting and displaying profile information for people leaving comments on your blog.
-
Tags
-
an option to restrict searches to a date range; for example, I would like to be able to find out the top tags (via TopTags) or the top tags for a blog (BlogPostTags) within a date range.
Would be nice to have somewhere explanations about how Technorati works: what pages are counted for links and based on what criteria they change.
[AnthonyEden] Any possibility for adding the ability to actually create accounts through the API? If I am providing a service to other users and I would like to integrate with Technorati then this seems like a very good way to do it. Thoughts?
Support for optional <language> RSS channel element to filter watchlist results (I can't read Chinese)
