In 1843, William Moon, an Englishman who became blind as a young man, decided to devise a method of printing for the blind which was less complicated than Braille's method of patterns of dots. He did this by using an adaptation of capital letters embossed in heavy paper. Part of the Lord's Prayer is shown in the exhibit. On the top line are the words "Hallowed be thy name, thy ... [then a curved line leads down to the next line, which reads right to left] "kingdom come, thy will be ... "
