Nearly a third of New Jersey residents over the age of five speak a language other than English at home, according to newly released Census data.
It's further proof of the diverse demographic melting pot that is the Garden State.
New Jersey is home to 41 towns where English is not the dominant language for the majority of the population.
Towns like Union City and West New York are primarily dominated by Spanish speakers, while Korean is the language spoken by more than half of residents in Palisades Park and Englewood Cliffs.
All but three towns in Hudson County made it on the list.
In addition, just because these populations speak another language other than English at home does not mean that they don’t speak or know English at all.
In fact, over 60 percent of non-English speakers at home actually speak English “very well," data shows.
Below, find all 41 towns where more than half of residents are non-English speakers.
A note about the data: The U.S. Census Bureau conducted surveys during a five-year period from 2012 to 2016 to create a snapshot of New Jersey. Some towns with small populations may have large margins of error.
