‘Liquid Glass’ UI elements to define new OS redesign for iPhone

iOS 26 rainbow

Tomorrow, at 10 AM Pacific Time, Apple will unveil the next-generation versions of its operating systems, including iOS 19 (now expected to be named iOS 26) for iPhone. The flagship change for the new iPhone software will be a dramatic visual redesign, which the company will also roll out across all of its other operating systems for a consistent new look on every Apple device.

In the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, he specifically references that Apple will show off new “Liquid Glass” UI elements. This means users can expect the OS to make ample use of translucent-glass like materials, and visual flair like specular highlights.

This one feature makes the Renpho Lynx the most practical smart ring yet [Hands-on]

I have now tried four different smart rings from four different brands (reviews soon), and the new Renpho Lynx smart ring has been able to separate itself from the pack, practically, among other things. It does all the main things you want a smart ring to do, like sleep tracking, overall health monitoring, look discreet, but most importantly, it does not try to reinvent the wheel. After spending a few weeks with the Lynx smart ring, here is everything you need to know and why you should consider it.

Is Apple’s refurbished store worth it?

Apple has long offered a refurbished store on its website, where it sells recent generation products at a pretty sizable discount. Unlike other refurbished offerings, Apple guarantees a replaced outer shell, battery, and glass – ensuring no wear and tear. You also get a 1 year Apple warranty and the ability to add AppleCare if you’d like.

That sounds great, but is it actually worth it? Well, it depends. We’ll be delving into Apple refurbished listings, and comparing it to other offerings on the market.

Review: CalDigit TS5 Plus Thunderbolt 5 dock – a supercharged version of the best dock for Mac [Video]

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been over seven years since I first got my hands on CalDigit’s TS3 Plus dock, and during its heyday, I labeled it as the best dock for Mac users. Since then, CalDigit released the TS3’s successor, appropriately called the CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock, which offered a refined take on its predecessor.

Now, with the advent of Thunderbolt 5 adoption for the latest M4 Pro Macs and higher, CalDigit is back with an even more powerful version of its TS-series dock – the CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 5 Plus, or TS5 Plus for short. Yes, CalDigit has retuned to its “plus” nomenclature of the past, as it plans to offer a less powerful 15-port version of the TS5 in the future.

The TS5 Plus, of course, includes support for Thunderbolt 5, but is there any other reason why prospective buyers should consider it over the already great TS4? Perhaps! Watch my hands-on video review for a closer look, and be sure to subscribe to 9to5Mac on YouTube for more Mac peripheral coverage.

It’s no secret that AI is improving the way scammers operate. Phishing texts are more convincing than ever, and malicious emails can look legitimate for longer than just a glance. Attackers are getting smarter about how they trick people into handing over money or personal info. But the good guys are getting better, too.

Earlier this week, Malwarebytes, best known for its real-time anti-malware protection software, launched a new AI-powered feature aimed specifically at mobile scams. I’ve been testing it out for the past few days. Here’s how it works and my quick thoughts on it.

How much control are you willing to hand over to Apple Intelligence? [Poll]

How much control are you willing to hand over to Apple Intelligence? [Poll]

More than a decade ago, I noted a shift that was taking place in my tech usage, with reader comments indicating I was far from alone. Essentially I started out wanting manual control over lots of processes before later opting for the convenience of allowing Apple apps and services to automate them.

I think we’re approaching another of those inflection points – this time courtesy of AI. Whenever Apple Intelligence evolves into something powerful, we’re going to have to decide exactly how much control we’re willing to hand over …
