NFL Retro Bowl '27 is back and now it's time to face the GAUNTLET. In this thrilling new high-stakes mode you are given limited resources and the formidable task of surviving a 16-game win streak. Along the way you must choose between safe matchups or top-rated opponents, and the rewards of real players or powerful perks. Player XP and abilities carry over after a loss, with every run fuelling a heady climb towards an epic winner-takes-all showdown against a bitter division nemesis and weekly leaderboard supremacy.
The classic Career mode is also back and bigger than ever, with over 3,000 real-life NFL & NFLPA players to choose from and new options for assembling your dream team, including the fan-favorite 12-man Roster.
The return of NFL Retro Bowl Championship Leaderboard with a new campaign lets you join your fellow fans in pushing your favorite team to the top of the community leaderboard while you earn prestigious Badges, and with the pass-and-play Exhibition Mode and new seasonal Game Center Challenges dropping through the year, there are more ways to take to the field than ever before. Retro has never felt so fresh!
If you like the NFL and old 8-bit systems, then this will scratch that itch you may not realise you have.Have played 20 seasons so far (across two games) and I’m still returning to do some roster building. So far I have brought multiple Superbowls to four teams that in reality haven’t won one.Only glitch I have found is the overtime system in the playoffs appears broken. I scored a TD and two point conversion, and my opponent then scored a TD but failed with their two point attempt (this should be game over). I then had to drive back down the field to score a second TD before I won the game.
Great game

A fun little game, and great to try to build a winning team. This is a nice variant from the others in the series (another Arcade game and two other regular games) with a bit of a graphical refresh. The big stars that highlight superstar players are a bit distracting, but nothing too serious.I don’t have a clue who the players are, because I don’t follow NFL. But it feels like the mix of player abilities per team at the start of the game is more realistic somehow. All in all this worth trying even if you don’t follow NFL. But I’m sure of you do it’d have a whole extra dimension.
Stats leader chart

I’ve been playing retro bowl for over 3 years now I believe and it has been one of my favorite games of all time! When NFL RB was released I was so excited to play a more realistic version of the game and it has lived up to everything I had hoped!! Especially with the most recent update it’s even better than i imagined, but as I am playing through the season I keep finding myself checking the individual stats for all the players to compare to how my own players stats are. Who has more passing yards, receiving yards and touchdowns scored. Even defensive stats! It would be so awesome if there was a stats leaderboard or something showcasing the season player stat leaders. (Plus it would help keep track of if my team players are being considered for season awards) Either way thank you for developing this game and making it so great. I will forever love this game and keeping playing!!
Exactly what I wanted.

Reminiscent of the old console games, I don’t mean PS3, I mean NES. That’s a Nintendo entertainment system. Short bursts of simulated gameplay broken up by taking control to make a play. Very satisfying when it all works. Dynamic difficulty makes the game a nice comfortable challenge.
Rosters have been updated so that players in the roster builder have their correct team, number and position to match the 2026 NFL Kickoff and the Week 1 games. Even more players are also now included, such as 40 additional rookies for 2026 who have never been in NFL Retro Bowl before (4xQB, 1xRB, 1xTE, 2xWR, 6xOL, 11xDB, 4xLB, 9xDL, 2xK; all rostered).
