5 tactical tips for Honkai: Star Rail

In Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll cross the cosmos on a spacefaring train, righting wrongs and battling baddies in turn-based conflicts. With dozens of characters to consider and all sorts of enemies to take down, you’ll find the strategic possibilities as deep as space itself. Stay on track with these five handy tips.

It’s a big world out there. Be sure to explore every inch of it!

Be a snoop

Whether you’re wandering the chrome corridors of a space station or exploring alleys in a bustling city, always search out-of-the-way nooks and crannies. There are hundreds of treasure chests to find, offering valuable Stellar Jade, used to unlock new characters and weapons. Keep an eye on the top left of your map screen, which displays the number of undiscovered chests in each area.

Trounce the Trotters

Those adorable, four-legged Warp Trotters cough up heaps of Stellar Jade when defeated. They’ll try to escape during combat, so focus your firepower on the Warp Trotter before finishing off any enemies around it.

Attack with the right element and foes will fall quickly.

Make ’em break

Depleting an enemy’s toughness – the white bar above their health – will cause them to break, often interrupting their attacks and applying powerful debuff effects. The icons above the enemy’s bars show their elemental weaknesses, so hit your foe with an appropriate attack – like fire, ice or lightning – to knock the fight out of them.

Be prepared

Techniques are a special kind of skill that can only be used outside of battle – like your Trailblazer’s Immortal Third Strike, which heals the party. These easy-to-overlook abilities can give you a leg up before a fight. Always make the most of them – especially when you’re approaching a tough scrap against a big boss.

Take in the trash

The sprawling city of Belobog has plenty of trash cans – and knowing exactly how many will earn you a reward, if you mention it to a talking dumpster in the middle of Boulder Town. Don’t feel like hoofing it all over the city to count trash? OK, fine: there are 20 trash cans in Belobog, and five in Boulder Town.
