We’re in awe at how deeply Never Alone pulled us into its unique tale of survival and exploration. At its core, the game’s a fun puzzle-platformer with stirring visuals and music. But the way it pairs the mythic story of Nuna and her fox companion with short videos about Alaska Native culture gives everything greater impact. As fascinated as we already were by elements like spirit helpers, learning their significance made the whole experience more powerful.

  • Beautiful. Perfect level of difficulty.

My first review stated I felt more like I was just an active listener to a story..boy was I wrong. At that point I was doing the first couple levels where I was just running through a blizzard jumping over occasional gaps and running from things..but after the third level there was so much more gameplay. I wouldn't call them puzzles but you're forced to think outside of the box and use all the game mechanics which is great because it keeps the game feeling fresh. Patience, as previously mentioned isn't something I have a lot of and you could say I'm frustrated easily. However, this game has the perfect amount of difficulty in my opinion and makes you do some creative things that feel very accomplishing when you finally figure it out and time it right. I mean seriously..it's five bucks..for an astonishingly beautiful game with unique and satisfying gameplay. Then there are the short videos you find throughout the game that give you fascinating insight into the Native Americans living in the Alaskan Tundra's culture, beliefs, art, and customs. I recommend this game to everyone. It's fun, immersive, challenging but not seemingly impossible, relaxing; I could go on. But instead, I encourage you to tap buy and share this great experience I'm sure you'll have as well.

  • Profound but hindered by imprecise controls.

I was SO excited for this game when I first heard about it. The representation of native cultures in the game is astounding and I am so pleased that a game like this one exists. The visuals are appealing. The storytelling is rich and the narrator's voice acting is incredible. The short informative clips that you can unlock are engaging and are a good motivator for in game completion. This being said, many of these marvelous elements are overshadowed by the game's irritatingly imprecise controls. Both characters are controlled too loosely considering the fine tuned actions and chase scenes that they player must complete. Each will tend to take an awkward step or two beyond what the player will reasonably expect when stopping or when just turning around. This combined with awkward and inconsistent input reading for movement controls makes for something of a maddening experience. I am finding myself having to put down my device completely because this game can get so frustrating. I wanted so desperately to love this game. I was so ready to love this game.. And yet some very basic design elements keep me from being immersed in this marvelous tale and frankly keep me from enjoying the game as much as I could. Regardless of these facts however I will repeat the sentiment that I am so pleased and proud that this game exists if for nothing else than for its connection to the people that made it.

  • Relieved It's Over

I picked up this game at the discounted price of $0.99. I figured "why not?" A lot of great reviews. I was immediately immersed in the gorgeous atmosphere and graphics, compelling story and interesting Inupiaq history. The game seems amazing at first, but its weaknesses become obstacles very quickly. For me, this game was a labor of futility and exercise in patience. I threw my phone in frustration at least three times. The puzzles are not that tough - it's the controls. Complex jumps and button combinations where the programmers required nothing short of precision... and we get the worst D pad and buttons I've ever seen. I worked on the same jump during Little People for 20 minutes straight refusing to buckle under the ridiculous game. And they only get worse. You will die dozens if not hundreds of times by the end. The Spirit Forest jumping from tree to tree is a nightmare. Fortunately, spawn sites precede every brutal combo challenge.I seriously fought through this game for one reason: to see the end of the story. Had I not paid $0.99, I would have deleted it after about 30 minutes. It's a cute yet terrible game that has potential to be exceptional. For this veteran gamer who beat decades worth of the most challenging Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Zelda and Halo games, this is the most frustrating experience I've had since Zack and Wiki in 2007. By far. Almost no enjoyment playing this, which is so sad considering how great it could be. Absolutely zero replay value.

  • Cool game but don't buy it

    Golden Kawaii egg

The game has great graphics, storyline, and characters but theres so many things wrong with it. The first problem is it's really confusing on how to play. Every chapter there's a new things to learn about the controls. The controls are also really wonky. The second thing is that it's kind of expensive for what it's actually worth. The game is kind of like a demo it's not complete. The third and final thing I will be stating is it's a short almost demo type game. After you finish the chapters it takes you back to the start and you just replay the game there's not another level there's not another story it's just the same story over and over. This really frustrates me because I thought it's going to be a really fun game to have multiple different stories. Since I bought the game I hope they make updates and bring new stories into the game because that would be a waste of money if it's just one gameplay. There's a bunch of other games you could've bought with the money that you paid for this game so it really makes me mad. I finished the game today and I was expecting it to bring me to another story or another section or chapter but I just brought me back to the start screen and once I press play it restarts the whole story>:( sorry this was a long review but just wanted to inform people who wanted to buy it:)

  • Problems... 👎😓

    TiggerWolfyy

I just have to say I just love this game. But I have a few problems that I do not like. First of all, when Nuna or the fox dies or falls, sometimes either of them will not whine or cry, and they just do an action like stay still or the fox might lean up instead of whine. This is almost like a bug that needs to be fixed. But this is not a big deal. But what I am really frustrated about is that you don't really tell us the directions clearly. When I got to the part where Nuna and the fox got digested by a whale, I was confused on the part where you had to use the fox and the spirits. When I jumped on all the spirits, the little bubble that Nuna can "Bola", sometimes just doesn't move. It follows the fox, but it won't go down to the bottom part. This tells me that this game is just a demo, but seriously $5? That's too expensive for a demo. Most demos are free like the Minecraft demo. But since this is supposed to be paid, I guess it's not a demo. But I bet you have tested your game out, so you know your own directions and it works for you. But not for me, because I had no clear directions on what to do. Next time, when the little pictures of Nuna or the fox doesn't help you, you should add where there are words/text on the screen to help you. That way it will be easier to know how to do this. Oh, by the way there is another related to this problem. You know the little fish-bone spirits? Not the ones in the ocean water but the one in that whale mouth, where the fox had to climb on to get to the other edge. I did not know how Nuna could ever "Bola" the ice, so I had problems for the fox to jump on the fish spirits. I could not keep running on the wall to jump on the fish spirit since I also had no idea how Nuna could Bola the ice. So I could not climb on the fish. Even when you try to jump on the fish without running on the wall. No way can you do that, because the fish is too high up to jump. Please give us clear directions,or even better add word/text directions on the screen to help you. Thanks.

  • Absolutly beautiful and amazing!

    GabD.

The game's graphics and details are absolutely stunning. The little details make the game so much more realistic. However, even if the game was so addicting and beautiful it was so short by the time it ended it left me wanting more. I wanted to know about about what happened at the ending. This game deserves a five star rating for its story line alone. There were a few glitches like with controlling the fox near the middle/end, but it's still pretty ok to control. I recommend this game to people who pay attention to graphics and storyline a lot. It's also like limbo in some ways the controls except much more beautiful and in depth with its story. Please play this game! 👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
