This is a fantastic alternative to Bartender, but it has one REALLY annoying quirk. Whenever you install a new program that adds a menu icon, it automatically gets added to the Always Hidden section rather than to the Always Visible section.This is a really strange/dumb design choice, because if you didn't know the new app was going to have a menu icon, you never will unless you happen to be looking through the hidden icons and find it. Also, since I don't install new apps super frequently, I sometimes find myself forgetting that Hidden Bar does this. As a result, I'll sometimes think the app isn't working properly or isn't running because I don't see it in the menu bar.I have to dock it 1 star for this bizarre decision. Otherwise, it'd be a 5-star app!

A couple small suggestions for the developers:A note explaining how the clock might change would be helpful. For me, the clock was losing the date when the hidden icons were collapsed. I fixed this by changing the Dock & Menu Bar system preferences from "show date when space allows" to "show date always".I don't know if this second suggestion is even possible, but... it would be great if the Hidden Bar icon (the small <) could also be hidden. Maybe just an option to pick the color of the icon so I could get something very close to the background color of the menu bar?Again, this is a great little utility. I've had it for only a few minutes, and I already love it. Thank you so much for making this available to everyone!

I absoulutely love this app! I have a lot of menu bar icons. Some of them get used more than others and a few don't get used at all.With Hidden Bar I can completely hide irrelevant icons or temporarily hide icons I don't use as much.It's extremely straightforward and impressive, especially considering this is a modification to a system feature/element. For those wondering how to set it up:1. Launch the app and it will appear in the menu bar as a vertical bar and a disclosure arrow: | > 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣2. While holding the Command button (⌘), click and drag icons you want to hide to the left of the vertical bar: 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ | > 4️⃣5️⃣3. When you have it the way you want it, simply right click the disclosure arrow (>) to hide the vertical bar ( | ): 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ > 4️⃣5️⃣4. Click the disclosure arrow (>) again to hide/collapse the hidden section.< 4️⃣5️⃣5. Click the disclosure arrow (<) once more to expand the hidden section.Tips:- Place apps between the vertical line ( | ) and the disclosure arrow ( > ) to have them show up to the left the arrow when the menu is hidden:2️⃣3️⃣ | 1️⃣ > 4️⃣5️⃣1️⃣ < 4️⃣5️⃣- Right click the disclosure arrow (>) while it's expanded to show or hide the vertical bar ( | ).- Click the vertical bar ( | ) to access preferences or quit the app.- You can enable the "Always Hidden" section in the Preferences to add an extra section to hide apps completely. It will show as a second vertical bar ( | | > )Hopefully this helps anyone that is confused.As for why I gave it 4 stars:The app icon in the dock shows when the menu is expanded. I believe the developer can update the .plist with some new properties to fix this.

Especially on Monterey, the spacing of the menu bar is obnoxiously big, so space can be hard to come by, especially if you're pressured by a notch (and one that is unseen by the software). Hidden Bar is a free alternative to Bartender 4 (albeit with fewer features). But for the basic function of hiding a few unhideable/ finnicky menu bar icons, it does it very well and quickly without any thought. However, there are just a couple of things I wish this app had. One would be 2 profiles, where you can choose to hide certain things in profile 1 and other ones in profile 2. Secondly, and more importantly would be the adjust the spacing of the Menu Bar itself, however, due to this app being free, I can hardly argue. Overall, perfect, with just a few nitpicks!
