How I Drink My Coffee

I drink my coffee black. I’m not trying to prove anything by doing that; I find it ridiculous that there are people who think it does prove something. I really and truly enjoy the taste of it that way. I buy good coffee beans, grind them fresh, and brew in a french press. It’s tasty and simple.

Now, when I’m out at a cafe I will often get a latte or some other fancier drink. I can make a black coffee perfectly well at home, but I don’t have a big fancy espresso machine. If I’m going to pay cafe prices1 for coffee, I figure I might as well take advantage of their equipment. Plus sometimes I am just more in the mood for a mocha, or a cappuccino, or, yes, a pumpkin spice latte2 than a plain coffee. I also figure that the black coffee isn’t going to be any better than what I make at home to start with, let alone before it’s been sitting in a pot for who knows how long.

  1. I did some quick math. Even the most expensive top shelf coffee beans work out to about a quarter of the price per cup at any cafe in my area. It’s not a surprising result, but it is a good thing to check. ↩︎
