About us

BREATHING PASSION AND COMPASSION. Our reason for being can really be summed up in one word: Breathe. It’s what unites us. It’s what inspires us. And it’s what keeps our community of physicians, scientists, clinicians, educators, administrators, volunteers and donors so committed— whether it’s searching for cures to lung diseases, teaching kids about the dangers of tobacco, or fighting for clean air. The Lung Association is the leading organization in Canada working to promote lung health and prevent and manage lung disease. We do this by funding vital research, pushing manage their health. Working closely with like-minded partners in the health sector and a broad range of healthcare professionals, we are the go-to resource for patients, their families, caregivers, health professionals and the general community. At a national level, we provide trusted and reliable information online, lead advocacy and awareness efforts and a national research program. Non-profit and volunteer-based, we depend on donations from the public to support our mission. Every day, we roll up our sleeves and grapple with the challenges of everything from asthma to the environment. We might come from different places and bring different talents to the table, but we are all here for the same reason: to ensure that no one has to ever struggle to breathe.

  • No April Fool’s Day jokes here! E-cigarettes are NOT recommended as a tool to help you quit smoking. Many people who use them to help them quit smoking continue to use e-cigarettes over the long term, trading one form of nicotine addiction for another. Counselling and medication have shown to be the most effective approach to quitting. Learn more about vaping and its risks on our website.

    • Myth: Using e-cigarettes is a great way to help you quit smoking.
  • The Canadian Lung Association supports HealthPartners - PartenaireSanté in recognizing workplaces across Canada through the Certified Health Partner designation. This designation highlights organizations that help foster cultures of compassion, philanthropy, and community, and that recognize the role workplaces can play in ensuring support is available for those who will be affected by a health condition or illness in their lifetime. • On World Tuberculosis Day, we’re taking a moment to recognize the ongoing fight against tuberculosis. If you notice Canada lit up in red today, it’s no coincidence. Across the country, buildings, monuments and landmarks are shining a light to raise awareness and remind everyone that tuberculosis is not a disease of the distant past. Despite being preventable and curable, the disease remains a global health emergency. In 2024 alone, 1.23 million people around the world lost their lives from tuberculosis, according to the WHO. Let the red lights be more than a symbol; let them be a call to action to address this urgent health crisis that affects so many peoples, families and communities. #LungHealth #WorldTuberculosisDay #Tuberculosis

  • With World Sleep Day this Sunday, we’re shining a light on something every child deserves: a safe, healthy night’s sleep. 😴 Sleep apnea in children can lead to daytime sleepiness, poor growth, heart complications, delayed brain development, bed wetting, and behavioural challenges at home and at school. Unfortunately, pediatric CPAP machines can cost more than $2,000. That’s where we come in! We offer grants to support families who otherwise couldn’t afford the machines and equipment their child needs. By becoming a monthly donor, you provide steady support that helps us say “yes” to more families. Even a small monthly gift can help change a child’s nights (and days). • Strong lungs aren’t built overnight, but they ARE built with movement. 🚶♀️ While it can’t prevent or cure every lung condition, regular physical activity helps strengthen the muscles that support breathing, improve lung efficiency and boost your overall endurance. Even small, consistent steps—like training for a 5K or committing to regular walks—can make a difference. So, this spring, consider setting a goal that gets you moving!
