Fun two days at London's Excel for DMWF. I enjoyed my speaking slot yesterday discussing why media personalisation is near impossible and how localisation is, and can be, the answer. (There were more than just the 3 heads you can see in the photo in the audience, honest. I'm blaming Michael Maslona's photo skills!) I took the audience through how we at DAC plan a local up strategy and showed examples of creative execution. The summary points: 1. Put the customer first – Be relevant, make it easy to convert. Too many brands add clicks to the journey or don't give the user the user journey they've asked for. 2. Business first thinking – Media strategy designed to maximise revenue. Budgets are limited so focus on where you can drive the biggest impact. 3. Keep control of media decisions – Less reliance on catch all approach. Google and Meta want you to leave it the algorithm, but why do you need to if you have all the info? 4. One size fits all is not going to drive the growth you need. Brands need growth but marketing budgets are flat or reduced. 5. Continuous testing powered by MMM. Our job is never over as media and user behaviour is constantly changing.

POSSIBLE Miami, year four for us and it gets bigger every time. But what I keep coming back to is not the scale, but how small it can feel once you find your people. Between our cabana drop-ins, hosted conversations, Soho House dinners, and the kind of run-ins that turn into real catch-ups, you start to see the same faces in the best way. Over a few days, those moments stack up across completely different settings and feel like something more than just a packed industry event. That’s what makes POSSIBLE special to me. It brings together some of the brightest minds in our space, but more importantly, it creates space for real relationships. Already looking forward to doing it all again next year 🥂 DAC

A strong reminder that when senior marketers get in a room together, the conversation gets real, fast. The second Toronto C-Suite Marketing Summit was full of smart, honest discussion about where marketing is headed and what leaders are being asked to navigate right now. More than anything, this summit showed the value of bringing experienced leaders together to share ideas, challenge each other, and talk openly about what this moment demands. Thank you to DAC, m&h and all those in attendance. Photo credit: Carousel Media

AI isn’t magic, and data alone won’t make it smart. In the first episode of Shift Happens, Nasser Sahlool and Dan Temby unpack why simply plugging AI into a dataset won’t deliver meaningful insights. Without curated, connected, and well-described data, teams end up chasing their tails instead of driving real impact. Getting AI to work means building the right foundation first, not skipping straight to the hype.
