AI is moving fast. But trust isn’t keeping up. Over the past year, we’ve watched AI get added to nearly every product we use, often as a default, often without much clarity or control. Our own research puts a number on it: 32% of people are using AI daily, yet 81% are concerned about AI accessing personal data. That tension matters. Because the next phase of AI won’t be defined by what it can do. It will be defined by how much people trust it. Today, I am proud to announce that Shift AI is officially live. We took a deliberate path. While others rushed to ship AI features to see what would stick, we took our time doing our research and speaking directly with our users to make sure we’re building something people actually want and trust. Our Core Principles: -AI should live where work happens: Not in another tab, but directly in the browser. -Context, not clutter: Shift AI understands your active tabs and apps to help you move faster without manual prompting. -Privacy-first architecture: Your chats are proxied through Cloudflare, ensuring your data is always protected and anonymous . -The Power of "Optional": We aren't forcing you into an AI-first world. Whether it’s our Intelligent Omnibox suggesting an AI response or a traditional search, the final decision is always yours. The most important principle we have is that technology should be user-controlled. Shift Browser has always been about giving people the power to shape how they work online. Shift AI is simply a continuation of that belief. Shift AI is live. And we took our time getting here, deliberately. A lot of companies rushed to bolt AI onto their products over the past two years. We didn't. Before we built anything, we surveyed close to 1,500 people and spent time with our Customer Advisory Board to understand what people want from their browsers and what they want from AI. The answer wasn’t surprising, but it was clarifying: People want AI to help them move faster. But more than anything, they want control. We learned that 43% are concerned about AI taking action without approval. Nearly half flagged privacy is a key concern. And frankly, I don’t blame them. Most AI being shipped right now is experimentation at scale. See what sticks, ship it, iterate later. We decided that wasn't good enough for our users. Instead of asking “how do we add AI?” We asked: where does it actually make sense for our users? That led us to a few principles we held ourselves to: - AI should augment, not take over - It should have privacy built in, not bolted on - It should live inside your workflow, not pull you out of it  - It should always be optional That’s what we built. Shift AI lives inside the browser, understands the context of what you’re working on, and helps you move faster, but only when you ask for it. Even small decisions reflect that philosophy. For example, our Intelligent Omnibox can tell when something might be better answered by AI, or a search query. Because the moment AI starts making decisions for you, it stops feeling helpful and makes people uneasy. We’re not trying to reinvent the browser with AI. We’re building AI to work alongside you, on your terms.
