violet_transcendencies Errr, hello peebles, I am new here. And uh, new to indie web stuff in general
#
osteophage Hello Vi!
#
violet_transcendencies The irony is I'm trying to get OFF of discord but... Here I am for a bit more discord apparently =3=;
#
osteophage This chatroom is bridged with some other services you can use, although I haven't looked into that yet.
#
violet_transcendencies I tried to use IRC honestly and it's been a while, and I'm rusty, and in the middle of a meltdown so it was too much of a hassle...
#
osteophage Yeah no pressure.
#
osteophage Here's hoping for things to let up for you soon.
#
violet_transcendencies I do not think they will to be honest... Probably not for a very long time
#
violet_transcendencies But that's neither here nor there
#
violet_transcendencies I'm interested in making a website for something, and... Ironically I used to be a web developer but I don't remember crap, and my mind has been atrophying for years so... I'm curious on some... Beginner resources/guides? I like the idea of specifically building something myself, even though that will be harder.
#
osteophage You're in the right place! Brace for links.

violet_transcendencies ooooooh
#
osteophage Recently we put together a tea and coffee-themed set of templates for beginners and hobbyists: https://32bit.cafe/spring25/
#
[morganm] Hi, welcome, I like this course for HTML for a wide range of people https://htmlforpeople.com/
#
osteophage That's a good one to start with.
#
violet_transcendencies it's crazy how much you can forget in... uhh... 8 years? lol
#
osteophage Eight years is a long time.
#
osteophage I'd also imagine that professional web development can be pretty different from creating your own site.
#
violet_transcendencies yeah... very early on in my career I tried to be a web developer, worked at a place for 6 months... honestly it's good I don't work there anymore it was scary and a terrible place but...
#
violet_transcendencies yeah they had me on full stack web app thing so, definitely differnet
#
violet_transcendencies Wowsuh though, thank you all for the resources so far
#
[morganm] I refer back to some resources that are 'beginner' pretty regularly, because Im interested like osteophage is in being involved in education and sharing links. Mozilla Developer Network is kind of the gold standard for me for web dev documentation, MDN Curriculum is gold
#
violet_transcendencies I kinda wanna make a website for myself for a couple of different things, but one thing that came up, that may or may not be going on a different website... I'm curious about making a webcomic like experience?
#
violet_transcendencies I know there are websites that can do that and you can upload and blah blah but... Maybe a weirdly worded question- are there any frameworks that allow for that with like, your own personal websites?

#
violet_transcendencies NICE
#
osteophage :3
#
osteophage There are also several code templates out there for general image galleries (see my useful links page again), but that's the one I know of for webcomics specifically.
#
violet_transcendencies wow, big thank you
#
osteophage That's Loqi, the bot. It's intended to try and keep this channel beginner-friendly.
#
osteophage Since that's what this conversation is about though I think this case is safe to ignore, lol
#
violet_transcendencies my bad, I can't help but always speak in jargon ./sarcasm, but in all seriousness I wasn't planning on the conversation going much deeper than this anyway
#
violet_transcendencies I'd actually have to do more reading and research to formulate more questions which would definitely go to the dev channel at that point
#
violet_transcendencies I'm just hoping not to put too much pressure on myself and burn myself out with a new hobby like I always do... lol
#
[morganm] Well, welcome, glad you get to experience the hopeful joy of making your own website
#
violet_transcendencies thank y'all for the warm welcome!
#
osteophage You're welcome! Feel free to come back with more thoughts or questions any time.
#
violet_transcendencies Thank you a bunch again, I definitely will, and hopefully when I have something I can share it here :>
