About Chris Williams

Chris Williams is a writer with more than 20 years of experience writing about film. 

He began his career working as a reporter for the Advisor and Source Newspapers in Shelby Township, Michigan, where he also served as the resident film critic. He has also written for Patheos and CinemaNerdz. Since 2020, Chris has written the Chrisicisms newsletter, which features reviews of recent film releases and thoughts on a variety of subjects. 

Chris holds a B.A. in communications and an emphasis in journalism and an M.A. in communications with an emphasis on media arts and studies, both from Wayne State University in Detroit. 

He lives in the Detroit area with his wife and his son and daughter. 

Industry Experience

Chris has been a professional writer since 2005, and his writing about film has appeared in a variety of media, including newspapers, books, and websites. His writing has been featured at the Christ and Pop Culture and Reel World Theology websites, and he contributed a chapter to the book Movies from the Mountaintop, where he discussed the spiritual lessons of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. 

Since 2019, Chris has co-hosted the podcast We're Watching Here with fellow Michigan film critic Perry Seibert. He has helped lead film discussions and screenings throughout the Detroit area. 

Chris is a former member of the Detroit Film Critics Society. He is currently a member of the leadership board of the Michigan Movie Critics Guild. 

Favorite Media

Chris' favorite movies can vary based on the day of the week, but at any given time, his favorite movies include Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Muppet Movie, The Tree of Life, Before Sunset, Rocky, It's a Wonderful Life, The Truman Show, WALL-E, Back to the Future, and Fargo. 

His favorite TV shows include The Sopranos, The Simpsons, Arrested Development, Lost, and Breaking Bad. He's a Stephen King constant reader.
