About Joe Schmidt

Joe Schmidt is the Executive Editor of Movies at Collider assisting the brilliant team of writers and editors. In addition to working with the editorial team, he helps assist leadership in managment duties. He has written news, reviews, and features, as well as conducted interviews, hosted podcasts, covered red carpets and set visits, and produced major events including San Diego Comic-Con and Star Wars Celebration. A certified geek, Joe grew up loving Star Wars and the X-Men and can talk about both franchises for hours.

Industry Experience

With a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and an Associate Degree in Film Production, Joe has experience in all facets of media creation. After graduating from ASU's Cronkite School, he spent the last decade in entertainment journalism where he started as a writer and quickly rose up the ranks as an editor at ComicBook. During his tenure there, he was recognized as a mentor in Paramount's development program where he helped new employees adapt to company culture.

Favorite Media

There's not a medium of art that he doesn't love, ranging from film and television to novels and comics to music and theater. Movies like Annihilation, The Graduate, Colossal, and It Follows are among his favorites. He's seen every episode of Gilmore Girls, The Sopranos, and Detroiters multiple times, and he also has love for reality TV like Love Is Blind. When not watching a screen, you can find him at a concert or music festival listening to Fiona Apple, Avett Brothers, Vince Staples, OutKast, and Jenny Lewis. He also has the controversial opinion that Waitress should have beat Hamilton at the Tony Awards.
