Warner Bros. has announced that End of Watch, the 2012 R-rated crime drama starring Michael Peña and Jake Gyllenhaal, will hit Max on February 24, 10 days after Valentine's Day. The film is shot in documentary style, and it follows two young LA police officers who find themselves in over their heads when they meet forces greater than themselves. End of Watch earned $55 million at the box office on a modest budget of only $7 million, and the film boasts strong scores of 85% from critics and 86% from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

This Controversial Joaquin Phoenix War Movie Was Temporarily Held From Theaters for Two Years

Liam Gaughan

Movie Features

Joaquin Phoenix

Anna Paquin

Michael Pena

Scott Glenn

Whether it's his odd affinity for method acting or an expressed desire to work with idiosyncratic filmmakers, Phoenix often spends much of his time on press tours defending his decision to make key films. In recent years, I’m Still Here was criticized for blurring the lines between fiction and documentary filmmaking, and Joker initiated a national conversation about the depiction of violence and treatment of those with mental health issues. However, all of Phoenix’s previous controversies pale in comparison to the 2001 war film Buffalo Soldiers, which was held from theatrical release for almost two years.

Mark Wahlberg’s 48% Rotten Tomatoes Conspiracy Thriller Is a Major Hit on Streaming

Adam Blevins

Movie News

Shooter

Mark Wahlberg

Paramount+

Antoine Fuqua

Michael Pena

Danny Glover

Kate Mara

However, more than 15 years ago, Wahlberg played Bob Lee Swagger in Shooter, which has gone on to become one of his most famous roles and movies in his 30-year+ career. Shooter, which also stars Michael Peña and Kate Mara, has made its way back to the Paramount+ top 10, after spending a considerable amount of time there earlier in the summer.
