The cast of Game of Thrones remains in ever-high demand across Hollywood ever since the fantasy series ended in 2019. That's especially true at Prime Video, where Sophie Turner is preparing her turn as legendary video game adventurer Lara Croft in the live-action Tomb Raider series, and Emilia Clarke will soon return to television for a "captivating" new starring role in the platform's adaptation of the Image Comics series Criminal. Easily one of the streamer's most ambitious efforts, Citadel, also had a former resident of Westeros front and center — Richard Madden. The mothership series of the Russo Brothers' massive interconnected world of spies finally debuted its second season earlier this year, though it ultimately hasn't turned into the juggernaut globe-trotting franchise once hoped.

The Assassin's Creed games are simply too popular to ignore, and the times have certainly changed since the ill-fated adaptation headlined by Michael Fassbender. A decade ago, video game adaptations were viewed as a cursed proposition, with several earlier movies such as Hitman and Max Payne struggling both critically and commercially. Assassin's Creed, directed by Justin Kurzeland featuring a shockingly overqualified cast, didn't fare any better. It grossed around $240 million worldwide against a reported budget of $125 million, and received a terrible 18% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

After a rather underwhelming return, Prime Video’s would-be flagship series has dropped out of the viewership charts entirely in its second week of release. The latest Nielsen report tracks viewership in the week of May 11 to May 17, when the most-watched streaming title was The Roast of Kevin Hart, which generated over 1.3 billion minutes watched. Netflix found success with Nemesis, which accumulated more than 830 million minutes watched in its first week, while Prime Video itself knocked it out of the park with the final season of The Boys, which crossed the 1 billion minutes watched mark. However, things went from bad to worse for the streamer’s mega-budget action-thriller Citadel.

Prime Video is in line for one of the biggest years in the streamer’s history in 2026 after releasing new seasons of some of its biggest properties. The first show that comes to mind is The Boys, which just wrapped up with a divisive finale that still has fans watching and debating close to a month later. Prime Video also aired a new season of its critically lauded adult animated show, Invincible, and confirmed on the day of the Season 4 finale that more episodes are coming next year.
