Sometimes it requires someone to take a leap of faith for a show to be made, but if the idea is good, it eventually finds its audience. Konrad Kay and Mickey Down wrote Industry when no one knew who they were, they cast unknown actors, and made the show for the BBC. HBO took an interest in the finance drama, becoming its American home. The show then gained a cult following and continued to gain acclaim with each new season. HBO would later give Industry the coveted 9 pm Sunday spot after it spent most of its run on HBO Max and BBC iPlayer, making it a rare success story in the television landscape.
Industry recently completed airing its successful fourth season, during which the show dominated HBO's streaming service for 10 weeks. However, data from FlixPatrol shows that it is no longer on the streaming service's top 10 list, just over a week after the explosive season finale aired. Shows leaving the top-10 list is not unexpected, but a drop this sharp is typically uncommon. For context, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms finished airing a week before Industry's finale, and it's still the second-most-watched show on HBO Max after The Pitt. HBO Max has also added new shows, increasing competition, which might explain Industry's sudden disappearance from the charts. However, the raunchy drama will have one more shot at reestablishing its relevance, cementing itself as one of the best HBO dramas of all time.
Will 'Industry' Return for Season 5?
Yes, Industry will return for a fifth season, which has been revealed to be the show's last. "For some time now, we have been thinking about how best to end the show on an unparalleled high," Kay and Down revealed in an interview. "Unlike some of our characters, we know when to leave a party. We’d like to thank our evangelical fan base, especially those who have watched from day one," they added. The duo teased more HBO projects after Industry, saying
"Finally: we owe everything to our crew and the best cast on TV for making our writing live. The characters will live on because of their world class performances. Seeing the HBO ident in front of our work will never stop being a thrill. It remains the best place to make television, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration well into the future."
All four seasons of Industry are now streaming on HBO Max. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
