Rarely has life been easy for Logan Howlett, a fact that holds as true for his official video game as the character himself. It's been nearly five years to the day since Insomniac Games first appeared on-stage at a PlayStation showcase and revealed Marvel's Wolverine, a standalone title occupying the same world as their wildly successful Marvel's Spider-Man adventures, only much more bloody and brutal to accommodate its gruff and troubled protagonist. Although it was announced at the same time as Marvel's Spider-Man 2, it took a much longer road to completion, with few proper looks at the game itself until it was confirmed to release later in 2026 last year. Insomniac also fell victim to a ransomware attack by Rhysida in 2023 that saw early builds and assets published online, throwing a wrench into plans and taking an emotional toll on those who worked to bring Wolverine to life.
Now, at last, the studio is officially popping claws and champagne. Insomniac confirmed via its X account that the much-anticipated PlayStation 5 game has gone gold. The news comes with just under a month left until the violent superhero action-adventure finally tears onto consoles on September 15, marking one of the last critical steps of Logan's journey into gamers' homes. To commemorate the occasion, a short video was shared of the iconic X-Men member unleashing golden claws, which, yes, will be obtainable for use in-game.
Like Spider-Man, Marvel's Wolverine will feature plenty of different costumes for Logan to don and get dirty as he carves through enemies. Insomniac has already showcased several such designs, including a cheesy throwback costume to his comic introduction, a black leather jacket, an Age of Apocalypse outfit, and more looks that he'll pick up on his journey to stop Bolivar Trask. The gold claws are on the more stylish side and now represent the end of the studio's mammoth undertaking under directors Marcus Smith and Mike Daly. Much of the team behind the Spider-Man games came together to make Wolverine a reality while still giving it a separate, mature feeling that sets it apart from the webslinger.

What Is the Story Behind 'Marvel's Wolverine'?
Marvel's Wolverine takes place three years after Logan, voiced by Liam McIntyre, leaves Team X behind before rejoining the fight for the future of all mutants. Reuniting with Jean Grey, he begins investigating the dealings of Trask and freeing the mutants he's been abducting with help from his private militia, the Reavers. The developers have described how central the relationship between the two beloved superheroes is, calling it a cosmic connection that satisfies what they've both been missing. In their efforts to protect the most vulnerable mutants from harm, they'll cross paths with other Team X members like Sabretooth and Mystique, as well as plenty of other classic villains for Wolverine to rip into, including Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, The Hand, and more.
