I think Janny Wurts's and Feist's Empire Trilogy could arguably hold a spot here, if we're going with lesser known, non-obvious trilogies. Those books are a really good read.
For everyone decrying the absence of the Lord of the Rings, technically it's only one book. I'm not sure the author of this article knows that, but that does happen to be the case.
