In today's TV landscape, critical acclaim and audience approval do not always guarantee a show's survival. Over the years, several promising series have met premature ends despite passionate fan support. While some productions find a second life on another platform, many simply disappear into obscurity, leaving viewers frustrated and longing for more. One studio that has had some notable casualties despite also being responsible for some of the most prestigious shows of the modern era is HBO Max. An example is Ridley Scott's ambitious sci-fi thriller, which was canceled after just two seasons.

The series, Raised by Wolves, was a dystopian science-fiction drama that quickly won over both audiences and critics following its 2020 premiere. After a successful first season, the series returned for Season 2 with plans made for a third installment. Unfortunately, its return coincided with a major leadership change at HBO, with David Zaslav taking over as Warner Bros. Discovery's new chief executive. Raised by Wolves became one of the casualties of the sweeping cost-cutting measures implemented under the new leadership. The cancellation was particularly frustrating given the show's ambitious story, which still had plenty of room to develop. Recently, series producer David W. Zucker opened up about his frustration with HBO's decision while also expressing hope that the series could one day continue.

HBO Max not only cancelled Raised by Wolves but, adding insult to injury, also removed both seasons from its platform, making it difficult for fans to revisit the show. Thankfully, the series remains available to buy or rent through digital storefronts. It now appears that Zaslav's recent comments have renewed fan interest in the series, as per data from FlixPatrol, Raised by Wolves is seeing a significant streaming resurgence, now charting among the most-watched titles on Apple TV PVOD. While a chart resurgence alone is not enough to guarantee a revival, it does show that there is still an audience willing to return to the series years after its cancellation.

What Is 'Raised By Wolves' About?

Raised by Wolves brought together several familiar faces from HBO's sci-fi and fantasy worlds, including Dune: Prophecy's Travis Fimmel and House of the Dragon's Abubakar Salim. Set against a mysterious dystopian backdrop, the series follows two androids tasked with raising human children on an uncharted planet after humanity's home has been devastated by war. However, their mission becomes increasingly complicated as religious differences threaten to divide the planet's growing human population. As the androids attempt to maintain control, they begin to confront the unpredictable consequences of trying to shape humanity's beliefs.

Aaron Guzikowski created the series, while Ridley Scott directed the first two episodes and served as an executive producer. The cast also includes Amanda Collin, who later portrayed Lady Jeyne Arryn in House of the Dragon, as well as Irish actress Niamh Algar, known for Wrath of Man, and Aasiya Shah (Bloods).
