Fantasy movies and TV shows are more popular than ever right now, with shows like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon picking up millions of viewers weekly on services such as Prime Video and HBO Max. Some older shows that aired in the 90s and even 2000s are now old enough that talk of reboots isn’t just smoke, and one property that fans have been dying to see more from is Good Witch. What started as a simple TV movie from Hallmark in 2008 led to seven sequels following every year until 2014, and then a TV show that aired several seasons before going off the air in 2021.
Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel for Good Witch stars Catherine Bell and Chris Potter at Big Lick Comic-Con in Roanoke, Virginia, and Potter even shared a story that had Good Witch fans shocked. Potter’s Jake Russell died off-screen before the Good Witch TV series began in 2015, but he admits that didn’t stop the studio from asking him to come back as a ghost in the TV show. In his full story, he reveals if he was even interested in coming back, and how his return was pitched to him by the studio:
“Well, because I was under contract with Heartland, which was the right move… but I must tell you a humorous story, because after year one of this series, my agent called and said, ‘They're interested in you coming back to the Good Witch.’ I said, ‘Well, I'm dead.’ And she said, ‘As a ghost.’ And I said, ‘You mean like Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore? We're gonna be making pottery together, or do I just stand in the corner of the bedroom all the time?’ So I said, ‘No, I'm not interested.’”

Good Witch fans everywhere are pushing for some form of a reboot of the beloved fantasy series, and after Bell and her co-stars Katherine Barrell and Kyana Teresa admitted earlier this year that they’ve “been begging” to come back, a potential new project is picking up even more steam. During the same panel, Potter called back to his request to come back, now softening his stance, saying, “Hey, if Good Witch ever comes back, maybe we can have that ghost come back at a later time. Never say never.”
Later in the panel, during the time when fans were asking the duo questions, Bell was asked by an audience member about why Stephanie and Adam ended up together and not Abigail and Donovan in the series finale. Bell didn’t mince words, telling the fan, “We’re hoping to bring back a movie at some point soon, and we’re hoping to take it back to the original ways that Good Witch started. But, I think those are just network decisions, and I couldn’t answer that.” It’s past time for Hallmark to give Good Witch fans what they want and green-light a reboot film.
