    Stack by stack, GET H2 Nukleus takes shape. The first of twenty pressurised alkaline electrolysis stacks from Sunfire have arrived at our multi-technology site in Lingen after a 340 km journey by water. They will now be installed into our electrolyser, helping convert renewable electricity and water into hydrogen. As part of the GET H2 Nukleus project, we are building a 300 MW electrolysis plant at the site of our gas-fired power plant in Lingen. The stacks that have just arrived will form the third of three 100-MW electrolyser units, which are due to be commissioned by 2027.

    Greetings from our offshore wind farm Thor. From the top of turbine 01 to be precise 😊.   Following my successful sea survival training, I had the chance to climb up a turbine for the very first time. An indescribable feeling condensed into 50 seconds of this video: transfer from the CTV, climbing of the transition piece, ascending 140 metres up the tower, and finally stepping out of the nacelle onto the platform. An incredible view of the construction site in perfect weather. My personal highlight: to see the pride of our O&M colleagues showing “their” wind farm and their engraved diligence for safety. A very special thanks to Günther Fenle who made all of this happen with his team. Kudos to all #TeamRWE technicians out there – I can at least better imagine now what you accomplish every day.   We are making good progress with the turbine installation and expect it to be completed by the end of 2026. Thirty-six of Thor's 72 turbines will feature GreenerTowers with CO₂-reduced steel, carrying 63% less embodied carbon than conventional alternatives. When all turbines are in place, 40 of them will feature RecyclableBlades. When fully operational, Thor will generate enough green electricity to power the equivalent of more than one million Danish households. Getting to halfway – on time – reflects the commitment of the entire #TeamRWE in Denmark and our partners across the supply chain, particularly Siemens Gamesa and Norges Bank Investment Management. The final stretch starts now.

    Three years ago, I took on responsibility for both HR and IT on the Executive Board of RWE. A good opportunity to look back and reflect on what has really stayed with me. I’m taking so much away from these past three years. Above all, a few key lessons stand out: ▪️ Developing an international company successfully starts and stands with talent. ▪️ Learning has become a core business capability. ▪️ The most important transformation happens where technology and people come together. A few years ago, HR and IT was an unusual combination at board level. Today, I see more organisations moving in a similar direction. Looking back, I am convinced this convergence is no coincidence. Technology transformation and people transformation can no longer be separated. The rise of AI has made this clearer than ever. Surprisingly, many organisations still approach AI primarily as a technology topic. In my experience, that is only half the story. The real challenge is not deploying the technology. It is enabling people to adopt it, trust it, learn with it and use it to transform the way they work. That is why the connection between HR and IT has moved from valuable to essential: AI has made the partnership between HR and IT a strategic necessity. As RWE continues to grow internationally, one of our most important tasks is to create opportunities across borders, connect people globally and build career paths that span functions, businesses and countries. At the same time, in a world where skills evolve faster than job descriptions, continuous learning is essential for everyone: specialists, leaders, employees developing new capabilities, and yes, board members as well. What excites me most is seeing how our colleagues continue to embrace new technologies, develop new capabilities and help shape the future of our company.     How is an offshore wind turbine fixed to the seabed? The answer lies mostly out of sight: in its foundation.   Long before the first blade turns, surveys assess seabed and MetOcean conditions. The findings shape the foundation design and installation method.   The most common type is the monopile: a hollow steel cylinder driven deep into the seabed. Monopiles have matured over decades: supply chains are established, logistics are efficient, and installation is fast. That's why they underpin the majority of our offshore wind farms, both in operation and under construction. Individual monopiles can reach more than 11m in diameter and weigh more than 2,000 tonnes.   During installation, a hydraulic hammer drives the monopile into place. Noise-reduction measures, including bubble curtains, help limit underwater noise during piling. Where required, rock or alternative innovative solutions are placed around the base to protect the seabed from scour while enhancing local marine biodiversity.

    There’s a technology that carries the sun’s energy from day to night: battery storage. August 8th was just one of many long, sunny days this summer where solar generated a huge amount of electricity – which, together with wind, was enough to exceed Germany’s entire demand in the middle part of the day. That night, the sun went down, lights went on, and conventional power plants kicked in to meet the evening demand peak. But that solar power didn’t get used to its full potential. In situations where more electricity is generated from solar than the grid can handle, producers are regularly required to curtail production – meaning that energy which would otherwise be available to consumers cannot be used and creates even greater shifting potential for suitably located batteries. On days like these, battery energy storage systems have an important advantage: They store solar energy at peak generation times and dispatch it in the evening, helping shift the curve to more closely align with demand. As renewable generation continues to expand, this surplus potential will only grow. By improving management of volatile generation from renewables, they also stabilise prices. When located close to overproducing PV systems, they can also help balance supply and demand and contribute to grid stability. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so adopting a technology-neutral approach is indispensable, especially considering regional differences and weather dependencies. However, batteries are an important piece of the flexibility toolkit. At RWE, we have 1.7 GW of battery capacity in operation and a further 2.5 GW under construction. With the right framework conditions, we can build up affordable and flexible support to make the most of sunny days like August 8th.

    Poggi Alti sits in the hills of Tuscany. In operation since 2007, the 20 MW wind farm has produced over 600 GWh of clean electricity, roughly the annual demand of 12,000 Italian households. Site Manager Francesco Bartolini takes us around the site and introduces the colleagues who run it: turbine data checked daily so a rising generator temperature is caught before it becomes a fault, maintenance prepared down to the tools and PPE, and a retrofit that returns excess oil from the rotor to the main tank to cut out unnecessary downtime. As Francesco sums it up, everything from monitoring to preventive maintenance to continuous improvement serves the same goal: keeping the wind farm safe, efficient and reliable. Nineteen years after commissioning, #TeamRWE in Tuscany is still finding better ways to run the same 20 MW.

    Sicherheit hat bei uns oberste Priorität. Besonders in unseren Windparks sind Serviceteams regelmäßig unter anspruchsvollen Bedingungen im Einsatz. Aus diesem Grund haben wir umfassende Notfall- und Rettungskonzepte entwickelt. Unsere Mitarbeitenden sind nach höchsten Standards ausgebildet, sodass sie in der Lage sind, schnell und sicher zu handeln, wenn es nötig ist. Dennoch können nicht alle Szenarien ausschließlich durch unser Betriebspersonal abgedeckt werden, weshalb wir Rettungskräfte gezielt einbinden und von ihrem Know-how profitieren. Gestern haben wir gemeinsam mit der Höhenrettung der Feuerwehr Hamburg in unserem Windpark Grauen den Ernstfall geprobt: Die Rettung eines Servicetechnikers aus 65 Metern Höhe. Während der Übung wurden die koordinierte Alarmierung und Anfahrt zum abgelegenen Standort, die Kommunikation zwischen den Teams sowie die medizinische Erstversorgung, Rettung und Übergabe des Verunfallten an die Rettungskräfte am Boden intensiv trainiert. Insgesamt waren elf Personen beteiligt. Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Feuerwehr und #TeamRWE hat eindrucksvoll gezeigt, wie entscheidend klare Abläufe und Kommunikation sind. Nur wenn unsere Konzepte in der Praxis bestehen, können wir unseren Mitarbeitenden optimalen Schutz gewährleisten. Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse aus der Übung helfen uns dabei, Prozesse weiter zu verbessern, damit im Ernstfall alles reibungslos läuft.

    Fewer turbines, but more than double the output. At Muel in Zaragoza, Spain, we have repowered an onshore wind farm by replacing 27 older turbines with just three state-of-the-art new ones. Installed capacity has increased from 16.2 MW to nearly 20 MW – and the electricity generated now covers the annual needs of around 21,000 households, up from 9,400. The project did more than just increase energy output. With 99.85% of all components from the dismantled turbines recycled, the project earned a ZeroWaste certificate from Bureau Veritas – a benchmark for circular practice in wind energy. Components for the new turbines were sourced from EU manufacturers where possible, with the project partly funded through the NextGenerationEU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. Two environmental measures complete the picture: bird detection systems on each turbine pause generation when birds are detected nearby, and the affected land has been restored to recover its original vegetation.
