Everything you need to know
Do I need to have a WordPress.com account to use Studio?
A WordPress.com account is required only if you want to leverage the preview sites feature for showcasing your projects and gathering feedback.
How can I export a theme I created in Studio?
Themes created in Studio function in the same manner as themes created in traditional WordPress sites. Themes can be exported by clicking “Export” found within the “Options” menu in the top-right corner of the WordPress site editor. See our documentation for additional details on these steps.
How do preview sites work?
After connecting Studio to your WordPress.com account, you can create hosted clones of your local sites. These clones, or “preview sites,” are powered by WordPress.com and hosted on a temporary domain, simplifying the process of gathering feedback from anyone, anywhere.
The ability to push updates from your local site to your hosted preview site adds further flexibility and potential for refining your project based on feedback. Your preview site remains active for seven days after the last update, and you can update as many times as you’d like, ensuring you have ample time to perfect your project.
You can have up to ten free preview sites associated with your account at any given time. Rest assured, we don’t include deleted or expired preview sites in the count!
How can I contribute to Studio?
Studio is a free and open source app, and our mission is for Studio to be the fastest and simplest way for developers to build a WordPress site. We welcome all contributions in pursuit of this mission. Think fewer buttons, not more.
Feel free to open a GitHub issue to discuss your proposed improvement. Pull requests are welcome for bug fixes and enhancements. New features will need to go through our internal vetting process before they are accepted.
To learn more about how to contribute, please read the Contributing Guidelines.
For information on setting up your development environment for contributing code, see the Code Contributions.
