How do I modify name servers for my domain name?
What do Name Servers do
Name Servers help browsers connect domains to websites. They're incredibly important because, without them, we would have to memorize IP addresses to access websites. Properly setting up Name Servers ensures that your domains are correctly pointing to hosting servers, reducing the risk of downtime or errors.
Why are Name Servers important
Modifying Name Servers changes who controls your domain's DNS records, which affects where your website, email, and other services are hosted.
How to change Name Servers for a domain registered with Directnic
- Log in to your Directnic Dashboard.
- Navigate to "My Services" → "Domains" in the drop-down menu.
- Select the domain name you wish to update.
- Edit by clicking the "Edit" link next to Name Servers in the "Details" section.
- Configure by selecting a name server profile or manually entering new name servers, then click "Submit".
Important things to note when changing Name Servers
- Propagation Time: Changes can take 24-48 hours to propagate globally. This process involves all other servers on the internet and cannot be rushed.
- Backup First: Document your current DNS records before making any changes.
- Service Continuity: This process transfers DNS control to the company that owns the Name Servers, so verify that the DNS records you want are correctly set up with that company.
