Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also received A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections were nearly perfect. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category tend to have few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also was awarded an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to be given several A+ category grades. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. The nursing rating weighs a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This particular nursing home provided 1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In our last category, this facility also was given an impressive long-term care grade, with a grade of A. This rounded out an elusive straight A report card. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
