The issue shown happens a lot for users in India. Because your billing address is in Noida, your bank is likely blocking the checkout due to RBI rules on automatic international charges. GitHub tries to place a temporary hold on your Visa card, but Indian banks automatically reject it without an extra security step or e-mandate. To fix this, download the official GitHub app on your phone, log in, and subscribe through your profile settings. This routes the checkout through Google Play or Apple App Store, letting you pay easily with UPI or net banking instead. Alternatively, you can open your bank app to ensure International Online Usage is enabled for that card, or try linking your card to PayPal and choosing PayPal on this checkout screen. |

This error usually happens because international banks block GitHub transactions or require extra 3D Secure verification that gets interrupted. To fix it, call your bank to authorize international payments to GitHub, or use a different credit/debit card entirely. Alternatively, link your card to a PayPal account and choose PayPal at checkout, as its routing system easily bypasses these payment failures. You can also try completing the purchase on a mobile data network or a different browser to ensure no ad-blockers or extensions are stopping the bank's secure verification popup. |

I got the same error when upgrading from free to copilot pro ($10) and two transactions declined due to the RBI mandate in India, before I was redirected to a manual payment page, but there the bill was $30 - probably the two declined transactions added to another $10. Even when I cancelled the upgrade, the billing overview page shows a payment of $20 is due. |

This issue is usually caused by the bank declining an international or recurring payment. Please check that your card details and billing address are correct, and confirm with your bank that online, international, and recurring payments are enabled. You can also try another card or update your payment method in GitHub billing settings. If the payment still fails, contact GitHub Support without sharing your full card details publicly. |
