Hi everyone,

Hello,

I was previously verified for GitHub Education and had been using GitHub Copilot Pro through the student benefit. Unfortunately, I missed the renewal deadline while I was busy with graduate research and coursework.

I am still actively enrolled as a graduate student, but when I tried to apply for verification again after my benefits expired, I saw in community that new GitHub Education applications were temporarily unavailable.

I understand that policies and availability may change, and I take responsibility for missing the renewal period. However, since I was previously verified and remain an eligible student, I would really appreciate any advice on whether there is a way to request a manual review, reinstate the previous Education benefits, or renew my verification.

Does anyone know the appropriate official support channel or contact form for this type of case? If there is no current option for reinstatement, I would also appreciate guidance on what I should do or monitor until applications become available again.

Hi! Since GitHub Education applications are currently unavailable, there unfortunately isn't a community-managed way to reinstate benefits or perform a manual verification.

Because you were previously verified and are still an eligible student, I recommend:

• Contact GitHub Support through the official support portal and explain that you missed the renewal deadline but remain enrolled.
• Include your GitHub username, the email associated with your account, and mention that you were previously verified for GitHub Education.
• Ask whether your case can be reviewed manually or whether you'll need to wait until Education applications reopen.

If Support can't restore your benefits immediately, they can usually clarify the current policy and advise you on the next steps. It's also a good idea to keep an eye on GitHub Education announcements for updates about application availability.

I was in the same situation. Unfortunately, if you miss the renewal deadline, your benefits usually expire automatically. As far as I know, there isn't a formal reinstatement process, but you can try contacting GitHub Education Support, explain your situation, and ask if they can make an exception. It's not guaranteed, but it's worth asking politely. If you're still eligible as a student, you can also check whether you're able to submit a new application.
