    A new UC Santa Cruz study says the fast food industry is at a critical point. Researchers analyzed internal payroll data from McDonald's and Burger King franchisees after California's $20 minimum wage mandate. The findings: → One Burger King franchise group cut daily hours by 21% → 18 McDonald's locations lost the equivalent of 62 full-time jobs in a year → Overtime was largely eliminated. Benefits eligibility eroded. The study also noted a Bay Area Burger King running Hi Auto's bilingual AI voice ordering in its drive-through, with the owner expanding it to more locations. A business decision. Minimum wages are rising in 21 states. California is the preview.
