Drools, in association with IAVD, conducted a webinar on “𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐲𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰,” led by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐥. The session brought together veterinary professionals for a focused discussion on the diagnosis, treatment and responsible antimicrobial management of canine pyoderma. Key takeaways from the webinar included: - Accurate diagnosis comes first skin examination and cytology are essential before initiating antibiotic therapy. - Look beyond the infection pyoderma is often secondary to underlying conditions such as allergies, parasites, endocrine disorders or other predisposing factors. - Topical therapy has an important role and should be considered as a first-line approach wherever clinically appropriate. - Culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (ABST) become particularly important in recurrent, deep or complicated cases. - Correct dose, duration and timely rechecks are critical to achieving treatment success while supporting responsible antimicrobial use. - Pet parent education plays an equally important role in ensuring treatment compliance and reducing recurrence. The webinar reinforced an important message for clinical practice: effective pyoderma management is not only about treating the infection, but also about identifying the cause and choosing therapy responsibly. We thank Dr. Mohanambal, IAVD and all the veterinary professionals who joined the session and contributed to the discussion. At Drools, we remain committed to supporting the veterinary community through knowledge-sharing initiatives that encourage better clinical decision-making and improved pet health outcomes.
