Having contributed to the construction of several buildings at IIT Bombay early in his career, Mr. SANDEEP NAVLAKHE, Chief Operating Officer, Godrej Properties Limited, returned to the campus for a different milestone this time: addressing its graduating civil engineers. Sandeep was invited as the Chief Guest at the 64th Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function of IIT Bombay’s Department of Civil Engineering. Speaking to the B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD graduating class of 2026, he reflected on his professional journey and shared lessons from the field. He encouraged students to challenge themselves, embrace emerging technologies, think out of the box, and continuously seek new ways to contribute to the advancement of civil engineering and nation-building. Under our Gurukul internship, a few IIT Bombay interns are already contributing to several of these innovation-led initiatives at Godrej Properties. This reflects the kind of campus engagement we value: giving young talent the opportunity to work on real challenges and contribute to better ways of building. Most of the world's major cities are stuck retrofitting infrastructure they built decades ago. India is one of the few places on earth still building from scratch. That is not a small distinction. It means the decisions made on Indian construction sites over the next 25 years are not a correction to past mistakes, they are the first beginning of choices we make. There will not be a second chance to build these 35 billion square feet differently. And yet the materials shaping our habitat remain one of the least addressed parts of the climate conversation. The innovation to change this already exists in India. What has been missing is a place willing to test it before the market demands it: a live site, real engineering constraints, and a developer prepared to validate what is still unproven. Habitat Matters is Godrej Properties' attempt to be that place. It is a CSR-led accelerator under Good & Green Labs in partnership with Xynteo, built to identify promising low-carbon material innovations from across India and globally, pilot them on our own construction sites, and evaluate them under real operating conditions and then share what we learn with the rest of the industry. The name is deliberate. Habitat is the home, community and ecosystem we shape through building. Matters are the materials from which every habitat is made. Get both right, and the built environment stops being a liability we inherit and starts being one we design on purpose. This is a five-year commitment we are on to validate solutions that will help us craft cities that spark joy through impact. For the third year in a row, our journey towards building a more inclusive Godrej Properties Limited has been recognised by the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inclusion Awards. This year, Godrej Properties was recognised as the Winner in the Energy, Resources & Industrials category, and we also received the prestigious Marquee Best of the Best recognition, which is awarded to the most outstanding organizations across industries for their excellence in inclusion. For us, Inclusion goes beyond representation. It is about creating a workplace where people feel valued, heard, and able to thrive through the systems we build, the leaders we develop, and the everyday experiences we create together. This recognition builds on our journey over the last three years, from being named a DEI Champion in 2024, to being recognised as a DEI, LGBTQ and PwD Champion in 2025, and now receiving the highest recognition across industries in 2026.
