  • Shares of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri (TBZ) hit the 20% upper circuit at Rs 366.50 on the BSE on Tuesday, extending a rally that has seen the stock gain around 30% over five sessions. The move came after GRT Jewellers agreed to acquire a 74.12% stake in the jewellery retailer for up to Rs 1,034 crore, according to Reuters. The transaction, which involves the promoter holding, remains subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions. GRT will subsequently make an open offer for an additional 26% stake, in line with SEBI regulations. TBZ, which has a 162-year history, operates 37 stores across the country.     Unacademy co-founder and CEO Gaurav Munjal has said the company has closed its acquisition by upGrad for just over $200 million, reflecting candidly on the journey. "We raised at a peak, but sold at a fraction of that. I'm not going to dress these facts up," Munjal wrote, adding that he was proud of what the team built between Unacademy becoming a unicorn six years ago and the sale. He said the platform created a generation of celebrity educators and that its language-learning app, Airlearn, became one of the top three most downloaded globally. Munjal said Unacademy had a topline of around Rs 400 crore and Rs 900 crore in the bank, and could have continued independently, but chose a path he called better for the ecosystem.

  • India has just recorded its warmest August since 1901, with weak monsoon rains and strengthening El Niño conditions pushing temperatures higher across the country. August rainfall was 16% below normal, widening the seasonal monsoon deficit to nearly 14%, while more than 47% of districts reported deficient rainfall. And relief may not be on the way. The IMD expects September rainfall to remain below 91% of the long-term average, raising concerns over crop yields, water availability, and another unusually warm month ahead.

  • An IndiGo Goa-Delhi flight made a u-turn and made an emergency landing at the Goa airport after mid-air engine failure. IndiGo flight 6E 2102 took off from Goa for Delhi on Tuesday morning at 9:15 -- five minutes after scheduled time of departure -- but soon returned to the Manohar International Airport after one of the plane's engines was reported to be malfunctioning. The plane subsequently made an emergency landing. According to the sources, a full emergency was declared for a brief period.
