Photos From Season 2 Of The Institute

Screen Rant has released a few more photos from season 2 of The Institute. They have also gotten confirmation that the season will be released later this year. No exact date has been revealed yet though.

In one of the photos we can see Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen who plays an eccentric European tech billionaire and one of the Institute's financial backers with an ambitious agenda all his own.

Season 2 Of The Institute Almost Done Filming

It's been siltent about the filming of season 2 of The Institute so far but today Ben Barnes who plays Tim Jamieson posted a photo from the set on him and Joe Freeman who plays Luke Ellis and said that the filming of season 2 is coming to an end.

What than means in terns of a release date is unclear but my guess is either late this year or early next.

Alfie Allen Joins The Institute & Plot Info Released

Alfie Allen from Game of Thrones has joined the cast of The Institute. Production has started in Halifax and Allen will play Nolan Reeves, an eccentric European tech billionaire and one of the Institute’s financial backers with an ambitious agenda all his own.

We have also gotten some info about the plot of season 2:

Season 2 picks up following the Season 1 finale, following Luke Ellis, Tim Jamieson and the other survivors as they work to expose the Institute’s crimes while staying one step ahead of the army of killers on their tail. Meanwhile, the ruthless and calculating Ms. Sigsby pursues her quest for vengeance and a return to power, in the process discovering more about the deep inner workings of the Institute than she ever could have imagined.

The Institute Renewed For A Second Season

My Thoughts On The Institute

Here are my thoughts about The Institute that premiers tonight with it's two first episodes.

The series follows King’s book pretty well. There are differences, yes, and they have shortened or removed some scenes, but the feel of the story is still there and all in all I enjoyed it.

The Institute Pilot Is 90 Minutes Long

Based on info from SXSW official site the pilot of The Institute is 90 minutes long.

Teen genius Luke Ellis (Joe Freeman) wakes up in a strange place full of children who got there the same way he did, and who all, like him, possess unusual abilities. That is The Institute, ran by the mysterious Ms Sigsby (Mary-Louise Parker). In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (Ben Barnes) has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide. Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name and created by the executive producer and director of MGM+’s hit horror series From, The Institute is destined to be horror fans’ new obsession.

The Institute; Trailer, Weekly Episodes & Season 2

MGM+ previewed the upcoming series based on King’s The Institute at Content London on Thursday and during the panel a full trailer for the series was played. They also announced for the first time that King has come on board the project as an executive producer.


The trailer gave a first look at the Institute itself, a cement, brutalist-style building where kids with telekinetic powers are taken after being mysteriously abducted. Luke is seen meeting the fellow children in the Institute as well as villain Ms. Sigsby for the first time, who encourages him that he is doing something good for the world as he is hooked up to machines and made to move objects.

“You’re not kids, not here. There’s no bedtime, there’s no chores. But here, if you break a rule, there’s grown-up consequences.”

Parker says in the trailer as clips flash of the children being abused and tortured.

In King’s book Luke is 12 years old, but for the series they aged him (and other characters) a few years. Director Jack Bender said this was for a good reason.

“We were very aware of not wanting this to be as awful as it can be, what these kids go through. We didn’t want it to be a sadistic experience. There’s a fine line and, god knows, as storytellers we didn’t want to go there.”

Cavell revealed that “The Institute” is connected to King’s universe as the children in the story all have “versions of ‘The Shine,'” the psychic abilities possessed by Danny Torrance in “The Shining.”

Head of MGM+ Michael Wright also teased that their intention is to drop episodes weekly to encourage appointment viewing. He also said a potential second season is already being discussed.

“The end of ‘The Institute’ Season 1 is very cathartic, but it still sets up some fun games for Season 2.”

More Names Enter The Institute & Who Plays Who?

Deadline reports that 11 more names have been added to The Institute series. Already known are Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Barnes, Simone Miller and Jason Diaz. They are now joined by Joe Freeman, Fionn Laird, Hannah Galway, Julian Richings, Robert Joy, Viggo Hanvelt, Arlen So, Birva Pandya, Dan Beirne, Martin Roach and Jane Luk. Production of the eight-episode series will begin in Nova Scotia later this year.

Laird plays Nick, The Institute’s resident bad-boy rebel.

Galway portrays Wendy, police officer and lifelong resident in the town where Tim is night knocking.

Joy plays Hendricks, the Doctor in charge of The Institute’s scientific work.

Roach portrays Chief Ashworth, Tim’s boss, the small-town Chief of Police.

Hanvelt plays Avery, the youngest, most innocent, and by far the most powerful of The Institute’s inmates.

Richings portrays Stackhouse, The Institute’s calculating head of security.

Beirne plays Drew, a police officer in the department Tim works for.

So portrays George, The Institute’s class clown.

Pandya plays Iris, one of the first kids Luke meets when he arrives at The Institute.

Luke portrays Maureen, an Institute orderly with a tragic past.

Previously announced Barnes’ Tim Jamieson is a disillusioned ex-cop who takes a job as the night knocker in a small town, withdrawing from the world until Luke’s plight reignites him and gives him something to believe in.

Parker will play Ms. Sigsby, the charming but iron-willed director of the Institute and a true believer in its awful mission. She’s certain history will come to see her as a hero.
Miller plays Kalisha, a sarcastic-but-friendly Institute inmate, who becomes one of Luke’s closest allies.

Diaz plays Tony, the most sadistic of the Institute’s orderlies, who delights in wielding his power over the children.

More Casting For The Institute

There has been some additional casting announced for The Institute. Simone Miller and Jason Diaz have joined Ben Barnes and Mary-Louise Parker.

Miller plays Kalisha who is a sarcastic-but-friendly Institute inmate. She becomes one of Luke’s allies. Diaz plays Tony, a sadistic orderly at the Institute’s, who likes to use his power on the children.

Barnes plays former police officer Tim Jamieson who’s looking to start a new life and , but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.

The Institute Starts Filming

It seems The Institute has started filming in Windsor, NS. This casting call sheet for background performers appeared online recently. And one of the actors, Ben Barnes posted a picture of the script for the pilot on his Instagram last week.

The Institute To Be An 8 Episode Series

MGM+ has given a series order to The Institute. Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone) plays former police officer Tim Jamieson and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) play Ms. Sigsby. Director/executive producer is Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes). Production is slated to begin in Nova Scotia later this year and the plan is an eight episodes series.

”I’m delighted and excited at the prospect of The Institute, with its high-intensity suspense, being filmed as a series,” said Stephen King. ”The combination of Jack Bender and Ben Cavell guarantees that the results will be terrific.”

In his introduction Hill said:
Stephen King is the best damn ambassador for audiobooks anyone could ever wish or hope for. His love for the form goes back decades. I know. I was there.

And King joked when accepting the award:
it would make a hell of a murder weapon, wouldn’t it?” He added: “I listen to my own books –the reason why is because you can hear everything you did right and everything you did wrong. This is the most honorable form of storytelling there is.

Stephen King was given the Audio Publishers Association’s (APA) Lifetime Achievement Award by Hill and The Institute (narrated by Santino Fontana) won the Thriller and Suspense category. Hill’s Full Throttle won for Best Collection.

The Institute To be A Limited Series

Yesterday The Institute was released and on the same day Spyglass Media Group’s TV division announced that they will develop the book as a limited series, with David E. Kelley and Jack Bender (the team behind Mr. Mercedes) attached. Kelley will pen the adaptation and Bender will direct. Both will executive produce. No release date has been revealed.

“I’m delighted to be working with Jack and David, the creative team behind Mr. Mercedes. We think alike, and I believe The Institute is going to be a great success.”
