WONDERFUL - EP

The metamorphosis of Tay Iwar has been marked by an outward embrace of indigenous influences. For long-time Tay Iwar listeners, the move to referencing his Tiv heritage in tandem with his warped abstraction of R&B and soul influences is in keeping with the star’s belief in the power of music to bend the fabrics of time and space, often to his will. On WONDERFUL, the five-track EP that follows April 2025’s Reflection Station, the singer-songwriter goes above and beyond to use his heritage as a touchstone for introspection. “No gree for them again/That’s how I do my thing,” he advises on “DO YOUR THING”, an intoxicating invocation to find one’s path. He delicately obfuscates the Tiv language on the project’s titular track in praise of a romantic interest as though he’s summoning a goddess. As much as WONDERFUL is defined by Iwar’s quest to connect to heritage, the artist can’t help but concern himself with elemental worries like a desire for connection. “I’ll be looking for more/You’re bad for me and I know,” he admits on “FIND A WAY”. It’s that same impulse to throw caution to the wind that powers project closer “NEXT2U”, an earnest yet throbbing confessional that showcases the singer’s astute understanding of our shared human impulses even as he tethers himself to his culture.
