Hailing from Jakarta, RAN—an acronym of members Rayi, Asta and Nino—made a splash when debuting in the late 2000s thanks to their upbeat, funk-laced pop. They scored big with a run of releases, including the sunny rock bounce of “Pandangan Pertama” and the jazz-leaning “Nothing Lasts Forever”, both culled from debut RAN for Your Life (showing they can’t resist a pun). It was the perfect primer for the trio’s subsequent releases, typified by Rayi’s cool, laid-back rapping and Nino’s smooth crooning over Asta’s skilful guitar and production wizardry.
