I Will Swim to You: A Tribute to Jason Molina

As the distance grows from 2013, the year Jason Molina tragically died, his influence only seems to grow in the world of independent rock music. Songwriters from across the country and world continually cite his ghostly blend of crunchy rock, alt-country and deeply felt blues as a pivotal cornerstone of a particular strand of 2020s music. As such, Run for Cover’s 2025 tribute to the late, great artist, I Will Swim to You, features many artists who grew up idolising the songwriter, and plenty of others whose sound can be indirectly traced to the Ohio-born musician’s legacy. Stalwarts like MJ Lenderman and Hand Habits lead the show, with powerful versions of “Just Be Simple” and “Lioness”, respectively, but each song here confirms the idea that few artists have ever put words and music together in a way quite like Jason Molina did.
