A lot has been building to this moment for Medellín rapper Kris R. From his earliest singles in the late 2010s opposite Rauw Alejandro and Pablo Chill-E through his more recent team-ups with contemporary stars, he’s shown and proved time and time again with impressive consistency on the mic. And while UNA VALIJA EN SENTIMIENTO may feel somewhat shorter than the oft-overstuffed projects coming from some of his peers these days, it nonetheless marks his most substantial musical statement to date. After a compelling “INTRO” teeming with vibes, he launches straight into the provocative yet smooth “OTROS PLANES” opposite traperos Almighty and Hades66. The collaborations continue throughout, often with those he’s linked with before, such as Ryan Castro on the dancehall-inflected “MÁS CHIMBA” and Dei V on “MUÑECA DE URBA”. “LA DEL PROCESO” and the Blessd-infused “COSITAS” both nod subtly to well-aged classics, albeit slowed down to syrupy tempos, while “AMBER Y WIZKHA” romantically references one of the more notable hip-hop romances of the 2010s.
