Review: I’m organizing an important event for startup entrepreneurs in Stockholm. As part of the registration process, every participant signed a clear Terms of Agreement allowing us to: • Add them into a WhatsApp group • Send them messages via WhatsApp • Call them via WhatsApp for confirmation If they did not agree, they simply would not have been added to our registration spreadsheet. We take data privacy and consent extremely seriously. Despite following this process precisely, WhatsApp disabled my account with zero warning or contact options, leaving me—and my registrants—in the dark. There’s no accessible support channel, no “Contact Us” page that actually works, nothing but silence. This is deeply inconvenient and extremely harmful to the event’s operations. ⸻ Why This Is a Major Concern 1. We Obtained Explicit Opt-In Consent WhatsApp’s own Business Messaging Policy specifies that contacting people is allowed only if: • You have their mobile number; AND • You’ve obtained their opt-in permission to receive messages or calls from your business .
