Walden Structures of Mentone, Ca., in cooperation with Mercy and the Missouri DHSS, built a more stable, temporary, modular hospital to serve the Joplin community until the permanent hospital could be completed. Two hundred and twenty-four 60 × 14 foot modules were pre-assembled in California and transported by truck and rail to Joplin, constructed of the same steel and concrete used for on-site building construction.

The architect’s rendering of Mercy’s new 100-acre campus just south of I-44 south of Joplin, with approximately 870,000 square feet of space that includes a 211-bed hospital with an integrated medical office building, breast center, cancer center, imaging center, and both behavioral health and hospice facilities, ready for use by early 2015.
