Hello, We have a staghorn that has lived in Southern California its whole life. It’s about 20 years old. We moved to Austin Texas. We have a wall outside that gets no direct sunlight. It’s under a covered porch. However I wonder about winter. We do get freezes where it says about 20 F. For a week. I could cover the plant with a blanket or tarp but not sure if that would be enough. What are your thoughts. During summer it can get up to 100 but it will not be in the sun and will have a mister on it.

Staghorn ferns cannot tolerate cold weather. They originate in humid, tropical forests. It is best to overwinter your fern indoors. Here is more on its cold hardiness:
