    Without checking: The VIC had to "steal" memory cycles from the 6502 for RAM access, so I suspect it's the same with the Z80. Commented Feb 26, 2017 at 19:35

    @dirkt but wouldn't you normally run CPM in 80-column mode, which bypasses the VIC and uses the 8563 VDC (or in DCR models the 8568 DVDC)? The VDC has its own video RAM which suggests it wouldn't effect performance in that mode. Maybe if you were using it in 40-column mode with the VIC due to the lack of a RGBI monitor?
