    Even the Wikipedia article fails to note that they were simply called "disk drives" until after the development of the flexible media "floppy" drive. Commented Jul 7, 2018 at 20:08

    As I recall, no-one used the term "disc drive" for a fixed disc; it was just a "disc". You only need to talk about the "drive" when you have removable disc packs. Commented Sep 11, 2024 at 12:18
