Budget, finance & payments

Learn how your organization can manage your ad campaign budget with Meta’s ad tools. Set budgets, control spending, request invoices & more.

Budget

Refine your budget.

You can set an average daily budget or one fixed budget for your entire campaign. While your budget may vary, your ad should run for at least 7 days, so our system has time to learn from its performance.

Daily budget

The average amount you’re willing to spend on an ad set or campaign each day. Meta may spend up to 25% over your daily budget to maximize ad opportunities.

Lifetime budget

The amount you’re willing to spend over the entire run of an ad set or campaign. Your daily spend may fluctuate, but the total will remain within your budget.

Choose your budget strategy.

You can set a budget at the campaign level, or set individual budgets for groups of ads that share the same targeting strategy, known as ad sets.

Advantage campaign budget

Set one budget that gets distributed and optimized in real time to all ad sets. This option, formerly known as Campaign Budget Optimization, helps you get the most results possible as the lowest cost.

Ad set budgets

Set individual budgets for each ad set. They can be useful if you want more control over ad delivery or if you have different audience sizes between ad sets.

Finance and Payments

Spending limits

Spending limits allow you to manage the amount of money you spend on an ad account. This is an adjustable lifetime limit on the amount your Facebook ad account can spend across ad campaigns. Spending limits can also help control costs and make sure you do not overspend. This can be tracked and managed through the Payments Settings section in Ads Manager. Learn more here.

Within a specific ad account, spending limits can also be created at the campaign level. Learn more about spending limits at the campaign level here.

To help protect against fraud, we also apply a daily spending limit to every ad account, based on spending activity tracked by our automated monitoring system.

Payment methods for Government Organizations

You can pay for ads with one of the following accepted payment methods:

  • Credit card or co-branded debit cards (American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa)
    • Credit card payments are available in every country that Meta supports advertising. The types of credit cards available for usage may vary depending on the country. Learn more here.
    • Below are some common issues that can help you prevent interruptions with your advertisements when using a credit card.
      1. Make sure that your credit card has an available balance that is at least equal to the value of your planned ad spend budget. If your credit card limit is hit, your advertising will stop until you pay off your account balance.
      2. When you receive a replacement credit card, always log in and update your billing information here.
  • PayPal
  • Credit Lines (invoiced monthly)
    • Monthly invoicing helps reduce the number of transactions you make every month by consolidating your ad account charges into one monthly bill.
    • Completion of a credit application including additional business registration documents are required when applying for a credit. A “Credit Line” will be extended based on your credit and payment history. If you are planning to spend a significant amount each month, you may want to proactively request a credit increase. Your most recent balance sheet and income statement, or three months of bank statements will be requested in order to do an additional credit review. Please reach out to AR@meta.com if you have additional questions about invoicing.
  • Shared prepaid funds
    • Shared Prepaid Funds is a self-service business-level payment option that allows organizations to make prepayments for Meta ads using various instant payment methods, including debit and credit cards. Once your Shared Prepaid Funds is funded, you can attach multiple ad accounts that your business owns to the single funding source.
    • Note: Shared Prepaid Funds is not supported in all countries, so please check this resource to determine if Shared Prepaid Funds is available in your country. For assistance on how to enable the payment method, please reach out to Meta Support Pros.
  • Local Payment methods
  • Bank account (direct debit) in supported countries

The payment methods available to you vary, depending on the country and currency of your ad account. Credit Lines also may not be available to all government entities. To see a full list of available payment methods and relevant tax information in your country, visit our Help Center. If you have additional questions, please reach out to our team.

Note: Multiple payment methods are available within your Business Manager but only one payment method may be used per ad account. In some cases, transitioning from one payment method to another may be challenging. Please make sure to determine the best payment method for your needs before beginning to run ads.

Payment methods for political parties and candidates for office

Political parties and candidates for office have a set of alternative payment methods available, depending on country:

  • Credit cards and co-branded debit cards (American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa)
  • PayPal
  • Bank account (direct debit) in supported countries
  • Business Prepaid Funds: Business Prepaid Funds must be made via bank transfers and thus may occasionally have a longer lead time than other payment methods. Please see the below prepayment FAQs for more detail in order to determine if this is the right option for you.
