Coyote vs. ACME has finally been released in theaters, despite originally being shelved by Warner Bros. for a tax write-off a few years earlier. A true off-screen underdog story rivaling the story seen in the movie itself, it's worth remembering that Coyote vs ACME wasn't the only movie Warner Bros. tried to bury, leading to natural questions and hopes about the other still-cancelled films like DC'sBatgirl.
Having been shelved for a tax write-off as part of Warner Bros. Discovery's aggressive cost-cutting strategy, the resulting backlash from consumers and the film industry itself saw WB allowing the filmmakers to shop the fully finished Coyote vs. ACME movie instead. This ultimately led to Ketchup Entertainment purchasing the movie's worldwide distribution rights for around $50 million. As such, it makes sense that some might wonder about Batgirl being offered the same chance at revival.
Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, DC's Batgirl was set to star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon, and Michael Keaton's return as Batman. However, the movie was cancelled back in 2022, joining the growing list of films WB chose to bury as part of their post-merger cost-cutting initiatives with Discovery. That being said, Batgirl's situation is admittedly more complicated than Coyote vs. ACME's.

One of the biggest differences between Coyote vs. ACME and Batgirl is that selling a Looney Tunes movie to another studio is arguably much easier. After all, Batgirl would have been tied to a much bigger, higher-profile franchise, with DC no doubt being considered one of the biggest assets WB owns (if not the biggest).
It feels very unlikely that Warner Bros. would be as willing to hand another studio the rights to release a major Batman-related movie, especially not now when James Gunn's newly rebooted DC Universe is well underway in the years since the cancellation.

Romero, a leading-man matinée idol since the 1930s, agreed to the role on one condition: he refused to do a specific thing for the makeup. You can still see what he refused if you look closely. World’s Greatest Detective — or a Gotham red herring?
It's also important to note that, unlike Coyote vs. ACME, which was fully completed, Batgirl was reportedly still in the middle of post-production when WB decided to cancel it. As such, it'd likely be very complicated and far less straightforward to try and complete the movie years later, especially if reshoots were still required.
Warner Bros. also claimed that Batgirl was essentially "unreleasable" in its existing form when the decision was made to cancel it. However, many have found that explanation hard to fully swallow, given the circumstances and what was essentially WB's apparent ulterior motives considering the cost-cutting promises made by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav to shareholders, hence the company's aggressive post-merger maneuvers.
It's More Likely The DCU Will Eventually Cast Its Own Batgirl

If Warner Bros. eventually wants Batgirl in the DC Universe, the simplest solution is probably making another movie rather than resurrecting the canceled one. Seeing as how a brand-new DCU Batman (and multiple Robins) is in the works, it makes a lot more sense for James Gunn and Peter Safran to introduce a new Barbara Gordon on their own terms, one that's more aligned with the vision they have in mind for Gotham City.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean that Batgirl actress Leslie Grace has to be forgotten (or even Brandan Fraser's Firefly for that matter). Both were meant to be brand-new characters introduced in the former DCEU, so perhaps Grace and Fraser could still retain their roles, albeit reimagined for the new DCU.
At any rate, even as Coyote vs. Acme provides hope that certain projects can sometimes be unburied, the odds of the original Batgirl movie being revived are incredibly slim. As such, the best way forward may just be to genuinely move forward with the new DCU, eventually making space for a new Batgirl movie of its own for fans to look forward to.
Coytote vs ACME is now playing in theaters from Ketchup Entertainment.
Finally releasing after a long development and production cycle, Looney Tunes feature Coyote vs. Acme follows the legal battle that ensues after Wile E. Coyote hires a lawyer to sue the Acme Corporation, citing repeat product failures in his attempts to catch the Roadrunner.
