Kerlig stays out of the way until you need it. Hit a keyboard shortcut and it pops up right where you’re working — whether that’s Mail, Slack, Notion, or anything else. Fix grammar, improve a message, or draft a reply without opening a single browser tab. It fits right into how you already work on your Mac.
Pick your AI model
Not all tasks need the same model. Kerlig connects to 350+ models across OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, Perplexity, and more. Switch between them in one click. You can also run local models through Ollama, LM Studio, or Apple Foundation Models if you prefer to keep things on-device.
Build your own actions
Kerlig comes with handy built-in actions like proofreading, summarizing, and translating. But the real power is making your own. Create custom prompts for things you do often — writing Jira tickets, converting code, generating social posts — and trigger them instantly from the shortcut menu. Your workflows, your rules.
Chat with documents
Drop in a PDF, webpage, ebook, or image and start asking questions. Kerlig lets you analyze and summarize documents right inside the app, without copy-pasting chunks of text into a browser. It’s a fast way to pull insights from files you’re already working with.
Set your tone of voice
Everyone writes differently. Kerlig lets you save tone presets — casual for Slack, polished for client emails, concise for tickets — so your AI-generated text sounds like you. Switch between tones in a click and keep your voice consistent across every message.
Keep your writing private
Kerlig doesn’t store or use your data for training. Your chat history stays encrypted on your Mac, and you’re always in control of which AI provider handles your requests. Write freely, knowing your messages and documents aren’t being collected or shared behind the scenes.

Works fine most of the time, but it could use more of the powerful AI-models in the background to react more flexible. It only supports English and can only perform predefinded tasks. That is too noarrow of a scope for an app that can use the Chat GPT API.

Hi Michael, Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to share your feedback! A couple of things that might change your experience: Regarding language support: while the app interface is in English, the AI models themselves fully support multiple languages. You can edit existing actions or create new ones and write the prompts in any language you prefer. The AI will respond accordingly. Regarding predefined tasks: Kerlig actually has a fully customizable actions system! You can edit any built-in action or create your own from scratch with custom prompts. You can find this in Settings under the Actions tab. As for AI models, Kerlig supports over 350 models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and many more providers - so there's a lot of flexibility there too. I hope this helps unlock more of what Kerlig can do for you.

I've been utilizing the application for approximately three days, focusing on its capabilities for proofreading and enhancing written content in real-time. I appreciate the option for using the AI provider of choice — Ollama in my case. The app has proven to be highly effective in this regard. Its user interface is intuitive, making it effortless to navigate and utilize. Furthermore, leveraging the local AI eliminates any associated costs, thereby maximizing value for users like myself.

Hi David, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble launching Kerlig. A couple of things to check: 1. Kerlig is launched using the hotkey you set during onboarding. If pressing it doesn't open the app, another app may be using the same shortcut and causing a conflict. You can check or change your hotkey in Kerlig Settings. 2. To access Settings, look for the Kerlig icon in your menu bar at the top right of your screen. Kerlig lives in the menu bar - it doesn't open like a traditional app with a dock window. If you don't see the icon, macOS may be hiding it automatically. To fix this, go to System Settings → Menu Bar and make sure the Kerlig toggle is enabled in the "Allow in the Menu Bar" section.
