“Sachin is a manager strikes a keen balance between head and heart. His capacity to think deeply has come through in our mentorship sessions. I have appreciated the times where he was able to lend perspective on what would elevate our product from a holistic, high-level perspective. I am also thankful that Sachin has continued to take time out to mentor me, despite not being my direct manager. In our 1:1s, we talk about how to be better people, in and outside of work. I have learnt from him especially on topics surrounding dealing with ambiguous problem spaces, and how to be a more effective person.”

A lot of design work is about optimises existing systems: faster processes, clearer communication, smoother journeys. To many designers, this can feel dissatisfying and demoralising, especially when you know that you're just band-aiding over bigger issues. At best, nothing really changes, and at worst you're helping broken systems become more resilient. I've seen many designers fundamentally abandon HCD or design thinking toolkits for other systems change approaches, because they're sick of providing tactical fixes to systemic problems. My message to our teams and clients over the years has been something else though: as a designer, you don't need to choose between optimising existing systems and being a change maker. In fact, i'd argue that Design thinking isn't just compatible with systems change — it's essential to it. In our latest newsletter, I share how we use familiar design methods to do systems change work: disrupting systems rather than optimising, questioning rather than accepting, transforming rather than iterating. Your HCD skills are more powerful than you think. https://lnkd.in/gG4JMc3p

Enterprise tech has a design problem. Too often, design is treated as “look and feel” — a coat of paint added at the end. But this mindset is cumbersome -- and costly. Poorly designed systems overwhelm employees, slow adoption, and in high-stakes industries can carry huge consequences. Design isn’t optional. It’s a strategy. It’s systems thinking. It’s the force that makes technology actually work for people. Look at Slack, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Figma. Each transformed not just tools, but the way people connect, collaborate, and create. That shift didn’t come from technology alone — it came from design. Where design takes the lead, transformation inevitably follows — that’s the future of enterprise. so well said “Title is not the power it’s just an access” All the topics Jingjin Liu writes about are very relatable.. this one especially.. as I have been through the identity crisis situations in the past. time to time I do interospect about the question “who am I if not my job title “ … I imagine introducing myself to strangers on a trip, relatives in family functions, my son’s friends, their parents, new neighbours, my own school and college reunions, young generation/college freshers during mentoring and most importantly my introduction to my own self.. none of them care about my job role and title .. Only me as individual matters .. Exist for yourself and your loved ones, rest will follow
